Working hard or hardly working?

What’s the right balance between work and non-work time? The traditional 9-5 has slowly disappeared with the emails and zoom and texting going far beyond traditional business hours. We asked members of our community to share with us how they think about work-life balance.
Life is all about balance, and the more you age the more it gets put on your plate. Balance also prepares you for being quicker next time. Well my work life balance has slowly shifted to no balance, haha. Back when I was studying, I was able to draw better boundaries between studying and personal life. But as I continued on as a freelance illustrator after graduating, I find myself became more work focused. I still try to get my workouts and jogs in on most days a week, play some ukulele here and there, as well as spending some time with my loved ones. Read more>>
Before starting my business, I thought I HAD to work a 40-hour work week, and I thought I had to put my family on the backburner in order to achieve the income I wanted. I very rarely took off work, I made myself available on the weekends, and I volunteered for every “special” assignment there was at work in order to put myself in line for the next available promotion opportunity. My work life balance has definitely changed over the last 2 years. During February of 2022, my first teaching video on social media went viral. Two years later, I have been blessed to accumulate over 750,000 followers across social media platforms. This has been life-changing, and has definitely effected my work life balance. I have always had a goal in my life. Before I got married and had kids my focus was on being a professional ballerina and a principal or the lead-in my ballet company. I met my husband while still dancing and it brought such joy to my life and as a dancer. Now I am the artistic director of a ballet school that my husband and I created. Overtime I have learned to go to work and create throughout work to balance out the time Im missing from working on my music.
