We had the good fortune of connecting with Tokyo West and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tokyo, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risk should’ve been my first name. Every business venture I ever pursued was me stepping out on faith and excepting the process. I have realized on this journey that building your business or brand is not over night it takes restless nights, going through bank accounts, making errors learning and correcting them. Your time is coming just stay consistent I promise.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So what set me aside from the rest is I’m authentic I actually really doing what I love so it’s not a job to me. I love doing hair and designing/ making clothing. I’ve been doing hair now 20 plus yrs and been a brand for my clothing for 13 yrs and no it wasn’t hard but being consistent will definitely pay off I never met a consistent person who didn’t win. My brand is fun, free spirited, confident and universal and one day I will have the world in Sincerely Tokyo clothing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So since I randomly go out a lot by myself I would definitely take them my favorite brunch spot here in Atlanta called breakfast at Barney’s or the breakfast club love the scenery and vibe. Another place is New Orleans daiquiri oh and I’ll close it out on a Sunday with the bonfire my favorite Sunday gathering we all family there without actually knowing one another I love it so shoutout to bonfire Atl for giving creatives a place to hang out and network
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to first thank all those who ever helped me in any way no matter the size I appreciate you second my best friend Ian ‘ mr. ‘Fire hands’ he’s a hairstylist/ colorist And I’m the hair game for a little over 20 yrs we actually met in hair school in 2006 and he’s been my best friend since always encouraging me my creative partner always inspiring me he even match my swagg I’m so happy to be one of his friends and I’m lucky he’s mines.
