We had the good fortune of connecting with Shāna “Lyiness” Salyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shāna “Lyiness”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I go above and Beyond in any job that I work I’m there early I work late I do things to make it look better I work way too hard to work for someone else at my previous job the work I did was meaningful and at the same time unappreciative after a colleague took her life the business handled it so callously that I knew I meant nothing to them as well That was the moment I decided I have to work for myself I have to put in all this effort for what I WANT to do every day
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The beautiful thing about Art is every single person does it differently even if we paint the exact same thing you can never have my energy in what You Paint and vice versa Art should never be in arena of comparison because it came from your soul your brain you express your emotions in a visual form that’s not up for comparison only appreciationIn my eyes Has thisbeen easy no it’s not supposed to either you have to work for what you want the universe has to test you how bad do you want it can you make it past the days where you don’t have anything and it looks bleak The biggest lesson I’ve learned is you have to just keep creating keep making the more you do it the better you get an asked for anything when people says it sucks just keep going if you have a fire in your heart to do this you have to keep pushing
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’m showing someone around the city some of my favorite things to do are riding bikes in the middle of the night downtown Atlanta you get a great wind off the sky scrapers and everything is empty we can just take your time and look We can spend our days at Sweetwater Creek sope creek cascade Falls and other amazing parks that make you forget you’re in a major city Some Other can’t miss spots are Crystal Blue in Little five points and any random shops around there and definitely have to go to Wadada market In the west in for some smoothies
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
