We asked some brilliant folks from the community to tell us about the most important lesson their business or career has taught them. We’ve shared some of those responses below.
The most important lesson my business has taught me is to never give up. When I first began my business I did not have a written out plan, just a plan in my head. It was a dream that took whole into a passion. I did not have business sense on pricing, so I low budget myself. I had achieved some personal development by taking a few photography classes, and gaining knowledge by assisting other professional Photographers. These lessons put me on a path of building my brand, renting my own photography studio. Clients did not flood my studio as I hope for, but I continued with faith, that if God built it the people will come. After 29 years as a marketing & pr healthcare executive, I entered a new chapter in my life and opened a seasonal flower market. Six years later, Pumpkinvine Gardens Flower Shoppe continues to thrive because of one main lesson learned – treat people the way you expect to be treated! Building strong working relationships with vendors is crucial to any business. I depend on so many people to successfully open every spring and fall season. My amazing vendors are a vital part of our team. The customer experience is my top priority. Our neighborhood flower market is a destination where people come to learn about flowers and plants. While my business is still new, one of the most important lessons it has taught me thus far is to believe in myself every step of the way. Starting a business takes a lot of courage and maintaining a business takes even more. With each step you take to help your business grow and expand it gets a bit scarier. You may experience lots of doubts and imposter syndrome but you already jumped out there so you might as well keep going. I’ve had times when I’ve felt like doing the easy thing, which was giving up and quitting, but I ultimately decided my dream was not worth throwing away that easily.
