Persevere or Pivot?

To persevere or to pivot is a question that do-ers have been asking themselves since the beginning of time. It’s never a straight road when you are doing something new, blazing a trail, breaking a ceiling, or pushing boundaries, so it’s only natural to wonder whether to give up midway. How do you know whether to keep going or to give up?

We start things, and sometimes they go well sometimes even great-but then confusion hits, and we stop. In every situation I find myself in, I always ask: Is this what I want? Is this what I need? When facing challenges, the question isn’t whether to give up but how to adapt. Every obstacle is an opportunity to grow, and if the first solution doesn’t work, that doesn’t mean the vision is wrong, it just means the approach needs to change.
Spiritually, persistence is about alignment, not force. If something feels difficult, it may not be a sign to quit but rather an invitation to look at the situation differently. The option to give up seems to always be presenting itself, in many different forms. Whether the lack of time or resources, the amount of times we’ve relocated, or our “big” family with all that it entails… giving up is the reasonable choice. However, being an artist isn’t something one can easily walk away from, the desire to keep creating remains. Over the last 15+ years, I have adopted the phrase “slow and steady wins the race” and applied it to several areas of my life: the art of mothering, homeschooling, and photography.
