Meet Jahliel Thurman | TV Host, Producer, Entrepreneur, & Public Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jahliel Thurman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jahliel, how do you think about risk?
You have to take risk. Will Smith one said “following your dreams is a lonely, solidarity, scary, dangerous pursuit…you have to be willing to risk it all to become that seed of what you believe.” He absolutely correct. I quit my job and moved to Atlanta without a true plan in order to pursue my dream in the media industry. The journey has not been easy, but it has been worth it. Now the doors that I was praying for are now being opened.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a TV Host and Executive Producer of my own television show called HBCU 101. HBCU 101 is a talk show that focuses on exposing the importance of Historically Black Colleges and Universities culture to a mainstream audience and highlighting the accomplishments and careers of prominent HBCU alum. I am most excited about this because to have a dream come true is rare in the world that we live in and I have learned in this process that if you put the work in and remain patient the doors will open for you. It has not been an easy road at all, however it has been worth it. One of the most challenging things for me during this process was to choose between time and money. I feel as though when chasing a dream you cannot have both at the same time in the beginning. Fortunately enough for me, I had a couple financial opportunities and good credit that allowed me to not feel the need to go get a job in which I could focus on my craft and my business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has so much to offer. Interesting enough I am not that familiar with the city being that I have only been here a short period of time. However, I would recommend a couple restaurants like Two Urban Licks and Poor Calvins for sure. I also would suggest Siva’s and Harold’s Chicken & Ice Bar for the nice chill hookah and drink vibes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my story to God, my family, and my friends. It is hard to put it on one person because as a combined uint they got me through. It has been some very dark times for me, however they kept me going and did not even know it.
