We had the good fortune of connecting with Zilong (Broly) Su and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zilong (Broly), what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my work to be my legacy. As I continue working, I realize that all the work I have made before has each become a unique mark and dairy that captured a certain period of time and memory. So I want to proceed to observe how my experience and mind guide me to make work. I would like to be remembered as a street-culture illustrator who never stops grinding and let the game do the talk.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is imaginative, undefined, and street culture-inspired. Influenced by hip-hop, anime, sneakers, toys, and tattoo culture, I want to create pieces that express feelings and stories in an imaginative way. Graduated from SCAD in June, I’m currently represented by the Spinning Yarn Illustration Agency, and a designer at Digiday. There are definitely ups and downs in life, despite all the unpleasant experience, the only thing you could do is make sure you continue to do things that make you better.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would treat my friends some fire Ethiopian food if they are ever in town. We will probably take a night walk around Inman Park. During day time we would go to Egg Harbor Café for brunch, and Ponce City Market for loitering.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Thank you Fangyu for the opportunity, and special thanks to my family and friends!
