Meet Zeel Patel | Production Designer, Set Stylist & Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zeel Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zeel, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
One quote that has profoundly shaped my professional journey is from Steve Jobs: ‘Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you. The way to do great work is to love what you do.’ This statement is not just a collection of words for me; it’s a guiding philosophy that I carry in my heart. As an individual who transitioned from the world of interior design to production design, these words hold even more significance. They encapsulate the very core of my approach to every project.
To me, this quote is a constant reminder that passion is not merely a fleeting emotion but a potent source of energy that fuels creativity and excellence. It’s about channeling that excitement for design into every detail, every decision. When I immerse myself in what truly excites me, I tap into a reservoir of creativity and innovation. It’s not just about the outcome but the journey of creating something extraordinary.
The notion that ‘the way to do great work is to love what you do’ is a profound truth that has shaped my work ethic. It’s not just about having a job; it’s about crafting spaces that tell compelling stories and elicit genuine emotions. This quote inspires me to infuse each project with enthusiasm, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
In my role as a production designer, I’ve learned that the fusion of passion and meticulous attention to detail is the alchemy that transforms spaces into experiences. Whether it’s a film set or an interior design project, the love for what I do becomes the driving force behind creating environments that resonate with people. It’s about more than aesthetics; it’s about crafting narratives through design.
Steve Jobs’ words serve as a compass, guiding me through the intricate process of storytelling through spaces. They remind me that the journey is as important as the destination and that, by immersing myself in passion, I not only create great work but also find fulfillment in every artistic endeavor.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artistic journey has been a thrilling rollercoaster ride, marked by challenges, growth, and unwavering passion. Initially establishing my career in India, I found myself at a crossroads when I moved to the States in January 2020, just as the world grappled with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This transition marked a reset in my professional trajectory, propelling me into the captivating world of Production Design.
What sets my work apart is not only the commitment to aesthetic excellence but the resilience born out of adversity. Navigating an unfamiliar landscape, both culturally and professionally, I found myself starting from scratch. The challenges of building a career in a new country amidst a global crisis were undeniably daunting. Yet, fueled by an unwavering hunger for my passion, I discovered a way forward.
One aspect that I take immense pride in is my ability to adapt and learn. Knowing nothing about the intricate workings of film sets initially felt like a significant hurdle. However, with each challenge came an opportunity to delve into the world of Production Design, to understand the nuances of storytelling through visuals. It was a process of self-discovery, breaking through barriers and fears, and finding my place in an industry that was initially foreign to me. One of the key lessons learned is the importance of adaptability. The creative landscape is ever-evolving, and staying open to new ideas and technologies has been instrumental in my growth.
The lessons learned along the way have been profound. Perseverance, adaptability, and the courage to embrace the unknown have become the cornerstones of my professional journey. Every setback was a stepping stone to growth, and each triumph reinforced my belief in the transformative power of passion. Whether it’s the harmonious design of a home or the intricate details on a film set, I aim to make every element resonate with purpose and meaning.
As I share my story, I want the world to know that CreativeMessbyZeel is not just about the final visual spectacle but the journey and dedication behind it. It’s a testament to the idea that, with determination, even the most challenging circumstances can be turned into opportunities for creative expression.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, I’m incredibly grateful for the support and guidance I’ve received on my journey, and there are a few individuals who have been instrumental in shaping my path.
First and foremost, I’d like to dedicate a heartfelt shoutout to my parents. They have been my unwavering source of encouragement, always championing my decision to pursue my passion in design. Their belief in me has been the driving force behind my perseverance and dedication.
A special mention goes to my best friend, Juan Velasco. He not only got me on my first set but has been a constant companion, guiding me through the ups and downs of this creative journey, especially during my time in Savannah. His insights and shared experiences have been invaluable.
Additionally, I want to recognize Dio Cholula, an amazing photographer whose work serves as a constant motivation for me. Dio’s artistic vision and dedication to his craft inspire me to push my creative boundaries and approach each project with renewed enthusiasm.
These individuals, each in their unique way, have played pivotal roles in my professional and personal growth. Their support and influence have been indispensable, and I am truly grateful for the community that surrounds and uplifts me.
