We had the good fortune of connecting with Zack Whyel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zack, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks has been one of the single most important things I’ve done so far for my life & career. Each time I have taken a risk, or have been faced with a tough decision, taking that leap into the unknown has always been the start to all of the great things I have achieved and experienced in life. Without risks, I believe life can get boring and stale, which is not how it’s supposed to be! Taking risks is what brings the new and exciting things into your life. Although some risks don’t always work out how you plan them, taking a calculated risk is always better than not taking one at all. Even if you crash and burn, you will have gained perspective and life lessons that only living life can teach you. I personally believe there is no loss in taking a risk, but only things to gain!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been on my creative journey for over 18 years now! It has not been an easy road, but the challenges and obstacles along the way have shaped me into a much stronger and much more creative person. My Skating/Acting journey began in 2002, 18 years later I have been featured in magazines, tv shows, commercials and movies. That also brought me to producing/directing, where I have produced music videos, skate videos, short films and now my first feature film Skateshop, with a great team in Charlotte, NC. I’m looking forward to creating characters and producing more films that cause the viewer to rethink and re imagine the world around them. I am extremely proud of what I have accomplished in the last 18 years and look forward to what the next 18 have in store.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some must see Atlanta highlights for me would be – Atlanta breakfast club, Slutty vegan, The Georgia Aquarium, Hanging and Skating at Fourth Ward, Hiking at Arabia Mountain Top Trail & Stone Mountain Trails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to all of the people that are supporting me and my journey! My family & friends, Mom & Mark, Jerod Jacobs & Bryan Lowe of Six Foot Kitten + all of our cast & crew on Skateshop.
