Meet Yvonne Bell | Baker/Mompreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvonne Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvonne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ennovy Sweets started out as just a way to raise some extra money to help send my oldest daughter on a trip with her school. I have always liked to bake, but it was just something I did for special occasions. I would bake homemade southern style desserts that I alarmed from watching my grandmothers. I never thought people would love it so much that every Sunday, they were asking when was I going to sell baked goods again. There were many people who suggested I should start a business but it never really clicked until my youngest daughter came to me. She said mom, when are we going to do another bake sale? I said sweety I don’t know. She looked at me an said ” Mom the people have spoken, they want your baking”. From there Ennovy Sweets was born.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ennovy Sweets is all homemade from scratch. I pride myself on desserts that taste good as well as looking beautiful. I am a self taught baker and I am most proud when I execute a customer vision that they entrusted me with. That sense of accomplishment and a happy customer. It has been a long road with starting my business, between health issues, kids and working a full time job as well, I overcame the many challenges by learning to ask for help. Something I always struggled with. I was so use to being super mom being able to handle it all. After some issues I have learned to delegate. My oldest daughter helps alot with the baking business and my mom helps tremendously with the kids especially with having an autistic son. The lessons I have learned along the way is to stop underestimating my talent and to price accordingly. I have learned that people will pay for what they want , especially when you have a product worth it. The world should know that Ennovy Sweets will someday be internationally known and we can’t wait to service all those potential clients looking for homemade delicious desserts.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in the city, would be in downtown Buffalo. There is so many different restaurants to choose from, not the standard franchise restaurants. We would go visit Canal Side, there is always a summer concert or some type of event happening.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Huge shout out to my Mom, Siblings and Kids. They are my number one supporters in everything I do. They have invested in my business and craft with me and encourage me to reach for the stars.
