We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvette Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvette, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My process for starting my business came out of a need. A need a close friend of mine asked me to fulfill. I was traveling to Asia, one of my friends suffered with hair loss and was becoming distressed, tired and about to give up on finding hair she needed at a price she could afford. She asked me if I could find some hair for her while I was in Asia. I, of course, agreed. Through this process I learned first-hand about the collection and sourcing of hair and the unfortunate unethical practices. I was able to get my friend her dream hair. However, I was distraught to learn that sometimes hair was forcibly cut from women men and children. I wanted to make sure I did not contribute to this, so I learned everything I could about the hair industry and how hair is sourced. I wanted to make sure that I sourced the hair ethically making sure the women who donated their hair was given a fair price and I gave back to their communities. This process was a challenging and an enlightening adventure. I learned so much about myself, my passion, so many different and unique cultures and have met so many wonderful people.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think what makes me unique in my business is that it was started out of a place of love. I wanted my friend to feel as beautiful as I felt she was. She came to me and trusted me in a time she was vulnerable. This unique start to my business pushed me to make sure that I honor all the people throughout the entire process of me helping women and men feel amazing. I knew when I started My Best Beauty Outlet, I needed to make sure that all my dealings were ethical and honored everyone involved. My goal is to uplift people and although I am only one person, I knew I could uplift many with acts of ethical business practices. I knew that by paying the women and men fair wages for their hair I was able to help transform lives. I have seen money I have paid to women help buy supplies for her children to go to school and by getting an education their lives will be changed. While My Best Beauty Outlet is a small business, we have a Big impact on the communities we work with.

Ethically sourcing hair was very challenging. I had to learn to communicate and work in different countries that had totally different cultures than I did. I missed my family and home so much during the sourcing faze. I remember being so home sick I just sat on my bed and cried. However, I gave myself 24 hours to feel bad and then got back out there because I knew I was building something that was amazing. Now I have two amazing Facebook groups, one has over 250,000 members called Boss Beauty https://www.facebook.com/groups/729730744103067 and I have another more private and intimate group Affordable Hair UNDER 500- wigs+toppers

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start off with an amazing brunch at the flying biscuit, then go to the four seasons Atlanta spa, go to botanical gardens and end our day at the sun dial

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout is dedicated to all the strong, feminine, powerful women who came before me in my family. To my grandmother who is a three-time breast cancer survivor, my aunt is a breast cancer survivor and told me I can do and be anything. To my beautiful mother who instilled in me a soft, nurturing, and steadfast nature. My father who always told me I can do it and he will support me.   He taught me to be a great listener and help provide solutions to people’s problems while following my passion. I remember him telling me that whatever I choose to do in my life I should choose to do it with love, fidelity, and strength. To my friend who trusted me at one of her most vulnerable times in her life and allowed me the honor to make her feel like her beautiful self again, which was the catalyst to me starting my business. This is dedicated to all the women and men who trust me and guide me on how help make them feel a beautiful as I see them. I thank all of them and thank them for their support.
