We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvette D. Best and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yvette D., have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over time, my perspective on work-life balance has evolved, In the past, I used to view work and personal life as two separate entities that required strict compartmentalization. I believed in setting clear boundaries and allocating specific hours to each aspect of my life. While this approach seemed organized, it often led to stress and burnout, as I struggled to meet the demands of both work and personal commitments.
However, as I’ve gained more experience and explored various strategies, my perspective has shifted. I now see work-life balance as a dynamic integration rather than a rigid separation. The concept of mindful transitions, shared pursuits, flexible workspaces, learning fusion and micro-moments deeply resonates with me.
I’ve come to realize that by seamlessly integrating work tasks with personal activities, I can maximize productivity and life satisfaction. This approach allows me to transition between work and personal life more fluidly, ensuring a more holistic start to my day. Moreover, involving my loved ones in my work and embracing flexible workspaces has enriched both my relationships and work experiences.
Learning fusion has been another game-changer for me. Instead of keeping personal interests and professional growth separate, I now actively seek ways to integrate my passions into my work. This not only makes my work more enjoyable but also allows me to explore new avenues and remain authentic in my pursuits.
The concept of micro-moments has had a profound impact on my work-life balance. These small gestures of connection during busy workdays have nurtured relationships without compromising productivity. It’s a reminder that moments of meaning can be found even in the busiest of schedules.
My approach to work-life balance has evolved from strict separation to intentional integration. I believe that by embracing these strategies, I have been able to dissolve the artificial boundaries between “work” and “life.” This intentional shift has reduced burnout, enhanced my effectiveness as a professional, and enriched my personal life. I now see balance as a dynamic blend that promotes both productivity and personal fulfillment.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have always had a passion for numbers which led me pursue what was to become a successful career in accounting. First, as an experienced Senior Financial Analyst and later as an Controller of a 20-million dollar budget. After obtaining my MBA in 2015, I went on to write four bestselling business books to help other employees who aspire to become entrepreneurs and inspire them to keep them dreams alive.
After setting up my income tax business in 2006, my main focus is transferring tax knowledge and helping clients that have been taken advantage of by unscrupulous tax professionals. “I want to continue to educate taxpayers about the tax process and how to maximize their tax refunds and tax deductions legally. I also want to educate youth on the importance of managing their personal finances.”
I couple my accounting skills and writing with one of my favorite past times, traveling: “Travel helps me focus on what’s important and overcome any writer’s block” she said. Having traveled extensively and “gaining knowledge” everywhere she went, Yvette’s career is littered with many achievements.
My commitment to lifetime learning and experiences has given me an edge with my financial knowledge that any taxpayer would benefit from. “It is my life experience and personal story of inspiration is what drives this successful business woman forward.”
