We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuriah Beuford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuriah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to own a daycare since I was a kid. I’ve always had a passion and love for working with children as that is what generally makes me happy. I went into college at Georgia State University knowing that teaching in the public school was not my main career focus, I simply wanted to gain more knowledge and information on working with all sorts of different children in order to put that knowledge into my own business. I’ve always worked at daycares, after school programs, and even babysat in my down time. In November of 2021, I remember sitting at my desk inside of my 3rd grade classroom overwhelmed and wanting to take a leap of faith of starting my own In-Home Daycare. I reached out to people in the same field, grabbed my notebook, and started to jot down everything I wanted to do as far as pricing, space set up, activities, what I would offer, etc. The rest has been history ever since!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is KittyKares4Kids. KittyKares4Kids started off as just a babysitting agency on providing parents with great care for their children while they were away. I offered babysitting in my home, their home, and even provided overnight care. I always wanted to give parents the opportunity to be at ease while they were away from their little ones. In 2022, I decided to start offering Full Time Childcare services in my home. This is something I thought i would never do as I’ve always wanted to open an actual daycare center. I mainly wanted to start because when I taught 1st grade during and after covid, I had many students come to me not knowing their shapes, letters, or even colors. I wanted to get kids as young as 2 in my daycare and prepare them with all of the tools they needed in order to go to Pre-K at 4 years old. I am most proud when I get kids who don’t know much, and they leave me with confidence in themselves as well as what they know. I take pride in building relationships with their families and really getting to know them to ensure them that their child is receiving the best care possible. Being an entrepreneur has not been easy especially when you lose kids for whatever reason. You have to then think outside the box, up your marketing skills, and offer services that others around you may not provide. That alone has taught me various lessons that you need to always be prepared for the worst no matter how good you are. I want the world to know that I take pride in providing quality care for children with lots of experience, patience, and guidance. Never give up on your dreams, we all have to start somewhere!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One thing I love to do in my down time is sight see! Whether those are the buildings in Downtown Atlanta or even the wooded areas in a nice park. One of my most recent discoveries that I’ve found is Colony Square in Midtown. It is such a great scenery with lots of food and drink options that anyone would love. Pretty Little Taco is my favorite so far as I would drive 30+ minutes from where I am for those great tacos! Ponce City Market is another great scenery that I love going to as they have lots of different options for drinks and food as well. My most recent discovery there was Bar Vegan. The food was amazing, the drinks were great, and the hospitality of the workers were great as well. I also love a good brunch! My favorite brunch spots are the ones that may have hookah, a Dj, and mimosa’s. That makes for a very great brunch trip!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my mom, Tauntanisha Glenn (founder of Educated Girls Rock) for answering the phone that day on when I decided that teaching in a public school was no longer for me! She gave me much encouragement on taking that leap of faith and doing exactly what I wanted in order to make ME happy.

Also, shout out to a very special friend of mine by the name of Arlania Lewis. She was one of the first people to reach out to me via Facebook out of a group of thousands of people who just really encouraged me, inspired me, and always gave great advice in the midst of me owning my business. She went from a stranger to being a very great friend!
