We had the good fortune of connecting with YUNG ZEN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi YUNG, how do you think about risk?
Definitely a fond believer in taking risks. Calculated or not I think they better your chances of success. Playing it safe has gotten me no where. Taking risks has gotten me everywhere. I don’t ever think anything is just a coincidence. You get what you desire when you take risks.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m from LA so I always thought I was cut a little different. I’ve loved music since the first time I heard anything. I’ve been rapping since I was sixteen. Back then I was highly influenced & inspired by Joey Bada$$ . But the older I got I started to create my own sound. I honestly think I’ve made it this far by keeping my love for music pure. I don’t wanna sound too cliche but if the songs not making me feel emotions I don’t want it, what we doing next. My music is as fun as I want to make it or as sad as I want to make it. Don’t ever let anyone tell you how to move, physically or musically. It’s yours. This life & your music. Don’t take them for granted.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m in Atlanta right now so to me every place I’ve been is interesting. I’m a simple man though so I just enjoy being out when I’m out. As far as food, Go try Faux Real Burger Grill. As Far as Drinks, Pull Up To OURBAR on Edgewood. I am NOT from Atlanta I haven’t even been to Lennox Yet! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Mom & My Grandma, Honestly I Would Be Nothing Without Them. My Whole Family. All My Real Friends & Supporters. My Manager, Jordan Neal. My Mentor, Westwood P. All the teachers that encouraged me to go to college even though I didn’t.
