We had the good fortune of connecting with Yung Damon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yung, what principle do you value most?
The value in life that matters the most to me is Loyalty. I feel like loyalty builds trust amongst the people in your circle and once you’ve established that you won’t have to question them. Loyalty also makes me feel respected by the ones who show it. I know they won’t cross me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The thing that sets me apart from others is my work ethic, my consistency and my voice. Im most proud of my growth. I have literally started from the bottom to now doing major things as a fully independent artist. I’ve done records with Ty Dolla$ign, Gucci Mane, Rylo Rodriguez, Alley Boy, Diggy Simmons, & Project Pat. I’ve won a few best local artist awards, had a radio intro on every local station in my city. Ive been featured in the Savannah Morning Newspaper after going viral on The No Jumper podcast live review. I’ve been featured in The Source Magazine, Hiphopweekly, Yo Raps magazine. I’ve done mixtapes with DJ Smallz and DJ Rell. I got to where I am today from hard work and never giving up despite the obstacles. It definitely wasn’t easy. I’ve almost been to where I needed to be and had plenty setbacks but I just stayed down with my craft and never stopped believing in me. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to have tough skin and never get your emotions caught up in the business side. I want the world to know that I have a real story and “Yung Damon!” is definitely a real artist and not a gimmick.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If they came to my hometown Savannah, GA I’d definitely take them to Tybee Island if they wanted to go to the beach. If they wanted to shop I’d take them to Oglethorpe Mall, Rumors, Jays, HallofSneakz. When they want to eat I’d take them to Toni Steakhouse, Ruth Chris, Seafoodlicious, Huey’s, Vic’s on the river or Mrs Wilkes Dining room. If they wanted drinks I’d take them to The Grove, The Nest, or the Rancho Alegre Cuban restaurant. If they just wanted some nice scenery then I’d take them downtown to river street, the waterfront or Forstyh park. If they’re into the club scene I’d take them to Elan or Island Breeze. If they wanted to just hang out probably Dave and Busters or if they had kids then I’d say the Exhilarate spot.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I Definitely want to dedicate my shoutout to a few people who have been a big support system or inspiration along my journey. First and foremost I want to dedicate this to my mother who passed away in 2012. She didn’t live to see me become the man/artist I am today so I definitely keep going hard to make her proud. To my son Damari who’s my #1 motivation to become be a better man and to be successful to give him the best life possible. Also I want shout out Da Bigg Homie Screwww, Bugga (RIP) & Durt Work for believing in my talent.
