We had the good fortune of connecting with Yul Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yul, how does your business help the community?
The African American Future Society is a social influencer, and participates or hosts various national and international workshops/training sessions on policies issues that impact the planet and the future of Black Americans. We are a crowdsource research company focusing on collective intelligence and foresight research methods.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The African American Future Society started in the 1980s but received most of its recognition during the United Nations 50th Anniversary conferences. The company has participated in national and international conferences and made presentations on the future. The challenges have been convincing others of the importance of future methodology and its applications. What I have learned along the way is to stay true to the course and practice your craft. In the 80s and 90s, when you ask people to think or talk about the future, future literacy was not a skill requirement, now the cat is out of the bag and it is all the rage. I am so glad to see technology is connecting people, ideas, and movements faster than we had hoped. New ecosystems are being developed, and people are planning further than an election cycle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Ferris Wheel, Aquarium, Illuminarium, The Sun Dial Restaurant, Magic City, Little Five Points, Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park, Botanical Gardens, City Hall, HBCU’s, the Trolley, Atlanta Marriott Marquis, World of Coca-Cola, Grant Park, and the Beltline.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank Bianca Grahm for recommending me for this opportunity. I want to thank my Aunt Donna for introducing me to the discipline of Future Studies and I want to thank my wife, Brenda Anderson for encouraging me to keep, keeping on when it all looks lost. And lastly, I want to thank Hazel Henderson, Ethical Markets Media, for sponsoring our work and global introduction.
