We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuchan Yang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yuchan, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
I would like to be a Multimedia Visual Artist practicing in various mediums. My goal is to express my concepts and stories to audiences through different avenues, including not only illustrations and motion graphics but also movies, video games, and even immersive experiences. Engaging in multimedia artistry will provide me with a comprehensive understanding of integrating ideas and visuals, allowing me to construct a richly layered artistic world that entices viewers to immerse and explore.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My approach to art is deeply influenced by my diverse cultural experiences and my combination of skills and craftsmanship. I navigate through trends and conventions by using symbols and metaphorical expressions in my illustrations and animations to develop my unique artistic voice. Balancing myself to find the ideal position is not always easy, and at times, I have felt isolated because of my thoughts. However, the satisfaction I gain from the final result and the appreciation of viewers always bring me joy and fulfillment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The city I live in is Savannah, Georgia—a beautiful city steeped in history, also known for its spooky legends. On a serene spring morning, I would love to guide my friend through the charming squares adorned with fountains and draped in Spanish Moss. We’ll walk through downtown, wandering amidst the remnants of history. Later, we can enjoy a fancy brunch at one of the trendy restaurants, perhaps visit museums and galleries in the afternoon, and leisurely shop in the crafts shops. As the sun goes down, we can stroll along Bay Street and visit my favorite rooftop bar, for a breathtaking night view of the passing cargo ships. And, one of my favorite spots is the graveyard—especially for a visit at night. Amongst the gravestones, I’ll share with my friend the haunting legends of this city. During the weekends, we can also escape to the beach for a relaxing day and savor a delicious crab meal. So come and explore Savannah with me—it is a journey filled with history, mystery, and unforgettable experiences.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person I want to give a shoutout to is my parents. They consistently inspire me to take the right path in life. Their unwavering support and encouragement are the driving forces behind my pursuit of my career and artistic goals. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

Another individual I deeply appreciate is my first teacher of Traditional Painting. Through his patience and dedicated teaching, I have transformed from a child into a young, ambitious artist. He was the guiding light that introduced me to the world of art.
