We had the good fortune of connecting with Yuan Tian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yuan, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I hail from the enchanting coastal town of Yantai, nestled in the northern regions of China. Its picturesque landscapes, kissed by the East China Sea, and its proximity to the vibrant cultures of Korea and Japan, have woven a tapestry of influences that have shaped the very essence of who I am today.
As a child, my senses were ignited by the allure of Korean fashion, which danced through the streets of my hometown. Those early memories were like brush strokes of color on the canvas of my young mind, igniting a curiosity and fascination that would later blossom into a passion for design.
Surprisingly, fashion was an exotic concept in my family. It was an uncharted territory, a world yet to be explored. It wasn’t until high school that I made the pivotal decision to embark on a journey into the realm of art, ultimately becoming my gateway to higher education. Here, I had my first rendezvous with the world of fashion, primarily through the pages of glossy magazines perched on newsstands.
However, it was an autobiographical portfolio of the legendary Alexander McQueen that truly opened my eyes to the dazzling universe of fashion. For the first time, I glimpsed the brilliance of a designer who had carved his path in this glittering industry. His journey ignited a spark within me, a newfound aspiration to become a fashion designer.
With resolve and determination, I pursued my dreams by immersing myself in a rigorous fashion design program in college. Yet, as I stood on the cusp of graduation, I yearned for more. My hunger for knowledge and a desire to push boundaries led me across oceans to the United States, to the illustrious halls of the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Here, amid a melting pot of creativity, I experienced a metamorphosis of my skills and vision. It was a journey of self-discovery, where I unearthed my unique design sensibilities and honed my craft with unparalleled fervor. Each day was a step forward, a testament to the power of perseverance and a relentless pursuit of one’s passion.
Perhaps I wasn’t the prodigious talent or the starry-eyed teenager who set out on this path. Instead, I’ve grown through steadfast dedication and a genuine love for the art of fashion design. Today, I stand as a testament to the belief that true mastery is born not from innate genius, but from a heart that beats in rhythm with its calling.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art, for me, is a deeply personal language, a means to translate emotions, experiences, and perspectives into tangible forms that resonate with others. What sets my work apart is the fusion of cultural influences from my upbringing in Yantai, China, and the global exposure I gained through my education and experiences in the United States. This amalgamation allows me to create pieces that speak to a diverse audience, bridging gaps and fostering connections through a shared appreciation for design.
One aspect of my craft that fills me with immense pride is my ability to weave storytelling into every creation. Each piece carries a narrative, a piece of my soul intertwined with the fabric, colors, and textures. This narrative approach not only makes the art visually striking but also invites viewers to immerse themselves in the story behind it.
The professional journey that has led me to this point has been far from easy. It has been marked by challenges, doubts, and moments of uncertainty. Yet, each obstacle became a stepping stone, pushing me to grow and evolve. Overcoming these hurdles required a steadfast commitment to my craft and an unyielding belief in my vision. I sought mentorship, delved into continuous learning, and embraced failure as a vital part of the creative process.
Through it all, I’ve learned that resilience and adaptability are paramount. The ability to pivot, to see setbacks as opportunities for growth, has been a cornerstone of my professional development. I’ve discovered that creativity thrives in the face of adversity, and it’s during these moments that innovation truly blossoms.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that it is a culmination of passion, dedication, and a commitment to authenticity. It’s a representation of the diverse influences that have shaped me, and a testament to the power of art as a universal language. My hope is that my work not only resonates with individuals but also serves as a catalyst for conversations, connections, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.
Above all, I want my brand to stand for the belief that art has the power to transcend borders, to inspire, and to spark meaningful dialogue. It is a testament to the boundless potential that lies within every individual to create, innovate, and leave an indelible mark on the world.

In this moment of reflection and gratitude, I am compelled to extend my deepest appreciation to my parents, the unwavering pillars of my journey. While the world of fashion may seem like a distant realm to them, their boundless support has been my beacon of strength. Their efforts to understand, appreciate, and stand by me, even when my path seemed uncertain, resonate as a testament to their immeasurable love. Their belief in me has been a guiding light, proving that their unwavering encouragement is the true cornerstone of my success.
Equally deserving of my thanks are the invaluable souls who have graced my path – my cherished friends, classmates, and mentors. Their silent but powerful encouragement has been the gentle wind beneath my wings, propelling me forward when the weight of my aspirations seemed almost too much to bear. Time and again, they have risen to my aid, selflessly offering their support whenever I reached out.
In the tapestry of my educational journey, one figure stands out in particular, casting a profound influence on the very essence of my design philosophy. Professor Peter Jensen, a guiding star in my constellation of mentors, transformed my approach to design. With wisdom and insight, he turned my preconceived notions on their head, revealing to me the true essence of what design means. His mentorship has been the beacon that illuminated my path, forever etching his name in the annals of my design journey.
To my parents, friends, classmates, and Professor Jensen, I owe a debt of gratitude that words can scarcely convey. Each one has played an instrumental role in shaping me into the designer I am today. Their unwavering support, encouragement, and wisdom have been the threads that have woven the fabric of my success. Together, they are the tapestry of my journey, and I am forever indebted to them.
