We had the good fortune of connecting with Yohana Gebremicael and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yohana, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
This is a question that I’ve found myself praying about in different seasons of my life. When having to decide if I want to keep going or give up, I ask myself these two questions. Does it make me happy? And does it align with my purpose?

If the answer to those questions is yes, then giving up is not an option. A good quote that I try to live by is “Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing. That is the Law of Consistency.” Remember growth happens outside of your comfort zone, it’s not supposed to feel good, but it’s worth it. Stay consistent, and don’t forget that as you keep going!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Right when I pick up Bestie from the airport, she is going to be dressed and ready because she knows the assignment. We are driving straight to the West Midtown area to play some games at Slingshot Social Game Club then grab a cocktail at Holiday Bar to sit by the firepit so we can share life updates and so that I can convince her to wake up early enough for our hike in the morning.

Saturday, we are up and at it by 5am to hike up Stone Mountain to see the sunrise. Later that day, we are walking the beltline at Inman Park. While we are there, we are stopping at VinoTeca for the live music, eating lunch at Bar Taco and not forgetting to order the amazing Churros with the chocolate sauce.

After the Inman Park adventure, we are going to head to Ponce City Market to enjoy a skyline view of Atlanta while playing putt putt and other carnival-like activities.

On Sunday, we are visiting my home church, Victory Midtown. Next, we are going to make our final destination Piedmont Park because if you know anything about Atlanta, that’s where you need to be on a Sunday.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

SHOUTOUT TO MY PARENTS. About 37 years ago, my parents immigrated from Eritrea to Atlanta in order to create a better life for me and my siblings. They wanted us to have a life of freedom and opportunities, which they did not have. They worked tirelessly, and accomplished just that.

I thank my parents for making me the woman I am, for teaching me how to hustle, for teaching me how to grind, and for teaching me how to have a vision that is worth committing my life to. Not a day goes by where I don’t recognize how much they sacrificed for me to be here, and that’s the fire I use to keep me going.
