We had the good fortune of connecting with Yimbo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yimbo, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk has played a major role in all aspects of my career and life as a musician. Without risk I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to grow and learn from my mistakes and also my wins. Risk was always presented to me as something to be weary of when I was younger, but as I grew older I realized it’s one of the things I NEEDED to seek out more often than not.

When something is new, it’s common for us to be fearful of it because we don’t always know the “risks”. that might come with it. Our fear of the unknown is what stops us from taking on opportunities that might put us exactly where we want to be. It might be we’re afraid we cannot live up to the expectations that new experience will bring, or we sometimes may not be sure if it’s even a good opportunity to begin with! Learning how to navigate these decisions can be hard, but you can’t learn unless you try.

In my career I’ve taken on projects I wasn’t always sure I would be able to do, song ideas I wasn’t sure I could deliver right, and played amazing shows that I was certain I would flop on in my own head. Allowing myself to take on these fears head-on has helped me grow in my artistry and in the industry by leaps and bounds. It has helped me gain more confidence when I’m on stages performing, writing songs, and allowed me to meet people I would’ve never met if I listened to that voice in my head telling me it’s “Too Risky”. I don’t take on every thing that comes my way, but through my experiences of taking on risk, I’ve learned to decide what opportunities can benefit me and which one’s do not.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a musician as well as a producer in Hip-hop & R&B. The understanding I’ve gained from being able to work as both the artist and music engineer/producer has helped set me apart from most artist. It has opened up my world of creativity and allowed me to become more versatile in both of those aspects of my music career. My last EP “VybeLand”, which is now on all streaming platforms, has been my most successful project to date and gave me the chance showcase those skills the most. It allowed me to play with flows and rhyme schemes, and even genres I’ve never tried before. Im looking forward to releasing more visuals in 2023 and providing a fans a deeper look into my musical process and even myself as a person.

I’m still not exactly where I want to be in my career, but these past two years I have been able to make some great strides in reaching my goal of becoming one of the best to ever do it in the industry. I’ve been doing the music for a long time, but I feel like im only just starting to truly see the fruits of my labor come to life

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorite spots in the city would be Hyer Hookah Lounge. It’s really dope place to get some hookah, chill with friends, and also watch some of the local talent in the area. The short north is also another really cool place with a lot of restaurants around. The random hole-in-the-wall places are some of my favorites to visit down there. Thats where you find the best food over the big chain restaurants.

The nightlife is the best in Columbus during the warmer months though. You can find all type of people roaming downtown in the city during this time. This is also when they have the best festivals and events going on.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t have been able to reach where I am without my team “Reign Supreme”, my family, and my friends that surround me. They have all been able to bless the journey in different ways. My team Reign Supreme helped keep me motivated to get better at songwriting. We all have different styles in music, but each of us have our own lane and way of doing things that we each borrow from each other and make it our own from time to time.

My family has been a huge support for me as well, especially my cousins like “Kinnawa The AfricanThunder”. They always give me their raw criticism and never hold anything back..EVER. If I ever want a truly honest opinion I always look to them to tell me how it is.

My friends have been there to support at my smallest shows in little beat up hole in the wall bars, all the way to the big stage shows performing in front of thousands of people. Without their support when there was nothing, I don’t think I would have been able to gain the confidence in my craft that I have now.
