We had the good fortune of connecting with Yewon Hong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yewon, why did you pursue a creative career?
An artistic path just always felt like the right choice. In the past, I thought an artistic career just wasn’t reasonable for me. I looked into other Georgia colleges with the intention to pursue psychology, but the moment I was even slightly pushed towards a creative career, I took it and applied to art school (SCAD specifically.) Now, as I look back on my growth, I honestly can’t imagine a different life for myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a lover of both horror and beauty alike, I enjoy exploring how the two interact. I’ve designed body horror inspired evening gowns alongside a collection based off mutated butterflies. Additionally. I enjoy the surreal designs of other designers such as Robert Wun and Thierry Mugler. In the future, I hope to further hone my unique design voice while also improving the quality of my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Currently, one of my favorite places to visit is the Masquerade. I’m an avid fan of live music and I go see a show whenever I can. The Masquerade in particular has an amazing vibe and the staff are friendly!

Besides live music, I would recommend giving the aquarium and Little 5 Points a visit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am without the endless support of my friends and family. Over the years, I’ve experienced moments of severe burnout. I’ve doubted if I was making the correct decisions and if what I was doing was right for me, but relying on my support system has helped me regain my passion and find the strength to continue.
