We had the good fortune of connecting with Yasir Waqaar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yasir, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Low risks low reward, high risk high reward comes to mind. Risks are always calculated. That could be simple math or calculus. I size up the situation and choose the path. It’s either an immediate response or a slower planned methodical process. With family and business, risks are part of daily life.
In business, I travel for trade shows and events. On some occasions, I am paid.
For the unpaid travel, it’s an investment in education and networking opportunities. I gain knowledge and information that will benefit the business.
What should our readers know about your business?
Please tell us more about your business. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others,
Instead of pre-made packages, our detailing services are custom built. When a client comes to Red Clay Detailing, we inspect their car and recommend services based on the findings. We will advice a less expensive service because it may better fit the owner’s use. A heavy daily driver doesn’t need perfect swirl-free paint for example. It will get beat up on the road and in parking lots.
I love meeting and exceeding customer expectations. Seeing someone’s expression after “reviving” a vehicle is priceless. Also, I enjoy traveling and connecting with people in the automotive care industry.
Education and setting targets help me stay focused. There are many directions I could go. Initially, I mostly washed cars, Nowadays, that is rare. I attended car detailing and business training that opened my mind to other possibilities.
Training helps improve work quality and increase client options. Industry trade publications keep me up to date on products, equipment, and other changes. Chemical technology is changing. Car makers change material and paints. So you must be have with the proper products and services that will bring the desired results.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
One lesson that sticks with me is never get complacent. Always keep your poles in the water. There were locations I serviced for a long time. Then one day they were gone, out business, staff quit. I had to find new customers.
Red Clay Detailing is about helping. Sometimes that means giving business to another company. A job may be outside our offering like glass replacement. So we refer it to the glass shop. A car may be scratched beyond what a detail can fix. That customer is referred to a body shop.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We must hit The OutKast mural in Little Five. Hit up Sevananda for healthy snacks and drinks.
Grab some JaidaChe Tea in East Atlanta. Take some for home brewing.
Home cooking at Springreens in East Lake.
Check out some live music at Apache or some other intimate venue. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A few friends in the detailing industry: Mark Elliott – Firehouse Auto Spa. Randy Thompson, Aim High Detailing, Rodd And Beth over at Next Level Detailing. They are always open and sharing.
My wife Asya, for her patience and understanding. While on the road, she is home with the children.
