We had the good fortune of connecting with Yahrasiel Colbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yahrasiel, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal for me is to own 4 agencies. I want two in Georgia, one in Tennessee and one in Florida. I also would like to have 16 staff members on the team.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own Advent Insurance and Financial Solutions, LLC. It’s a full service agency. We offer life, home, auto, renters, commercial, disability, cancer, accident, hospital and heart insurance. We also offer retirement options and investments. Right now, I serve Georgia and Tennessee. One thing that makes us unique is that I spend ALL of my marketing dollars in schools. Currently I partner with Rockdale, Newton, and Henry County Schools. I fund Donors Choose projects for teachers, sponsor events for the school staff, do giveaways, and offer our Educators free workshops on things like Financial Success, the State Teacher Retirement System, and Student Loan Solutions. As a former teacher, I love this part of my job. Each time that I walk into a school, it’s like home. My goal now is to Educate the Educator. It’s to take care of them like they take care of our children. When I left teaching, I had a ton of student loans and I lost all of my benefits. I was an expert in my content but not knowledgeable about finance. I just feel that this needs to change. I’ve been full-time Entrepreneur since 2012. I started my first business consistent business 2008. Prior to that I dabbled in a few ventures but I wasn’t serious. Everyone wants to be an Entrepreneur until is time to be an Entrepreneur. It’s not easy. It takes a ton of faith, hope, desire, perseverance, discipline, focus and drive to say the least. I’ve learned to run my business with excellence and integrity. I am a person that my clients trust. I believe this is why I will stay in business and be able to pass this business to my children in the future.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a foodie and wine enthusiast. I am also an art and theater junkie. We would have to visit the High Museum and the Alliance Theater. I enjoy cooking so we would surely hit up the DeKalb Farmers Market, get her favorite foods, and cook a great meal together. Home cooking is the best to me and I love to host. As for dining out, I have way too many favorites in Atlanta. I hate to start listing because I enjoy so many places. I would take her to Le Petit Marche and Sweet Melissa’s for breakfast. We’d probably dine at Hal’s, Pricci, Nikolai’s Roof, Poor Calvin’s, Murphy’s and Aria. I would visit a few of the wineries in North Georgia as well. Cafe Lily is one of my lunch favorites too. Now I’m hungry.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Mother, Dorothy. She is my number one supporter and she is my friend.
