We had the good fortune of connecting with YaGass Sey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi YaGass, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business has taught me is surprises and growth go hand and hand. When I first started doing interviews, styling, and selling merchandise many surprising factors popped up along the way like outgrowing an old studio space and having to find another one, learning how to build good business credit, linking an IP address to your new website, etc that throw you off your allotted schedule and force you to take some time to learn something new. Although at the time the inconvenience is aggravating, it forces you to take the time to grow and apply your new-found knowledge to grow your business or brand.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been doing media interviewes with the hottest up and coming talents in Atlanta, as well as a wardrobe styling for about 2 years now and it hasn’t been easy getting to this place. It took a lot of botched takes and practice to get to the level of comfortability I have in my craft today. The talent was always there it was just a matter of getting more experience in what I love doing to really get a buzz correlated with my work. Along the way I’ve learned to adapt to every possible environment and personality type you can imagine and it has helped me to become a better business woman. I also decided to launch my website and merchandise during the pandemic to help spread my name around the city. You can check out those tees, boxers, and more on my website www.iloveyagass.com
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If you ever come to Atlanta for a week I’d suggest going to Hide, Oak, and CRU to smoke some hookah and catch some good vibes on a weekday. They typically have good food but I would go to JJ’s fish, Pirate’s broil, or Seasons 52 for some good filling and quality food. If going out with friends is your thing you definitely have to hit the night scene at Compound or Gold room, you’ll always run into some fun there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out to my mother for always supporting me in all of my endeavors and dreams. She is the first one to watch, comment, and support all of my content and I love her dearly for all of the talents she’s provided me. I also want to shout out to my close friends who are always thinking of the next big business venture or collaboration we should get into. Special shoutout to my photographer Amenawon Momodu (@momodu_ on IG), Business partner Melody Calvert (@Welcometotheville on IG) they always motivate me to stay consistent and level up each chance I get.
