We had the good fortune of connecting with Wynton Rice and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wynton, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started HGA, (Homegrown Art) 3 months before the actual idea I was diagnosed with kidney failure, my kidneys were at 90% loss. I could no longer work at my well paying job, due to the effects of dialysis treatment which is a very exhausting experience. I had to turn to what I love which is the arts. Visual art, music, and graphic design was an escape for me out of a dark place, and I was fortunate enough to have people around me who believed in me, and told me I could turn my talents into a lucrative situation.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
HGA Entertainment Management is different simply because we’re all about the artists we represent, and making sure they have absolute control of their creativity, and art released to the masses. We strive, as a business to find out our client’s goals in which they’re trying to reach and work relentlessly to help our artists get to a place career wise where they want to be. Through calculated steps and proper planning these goals are reachable when we follow our plans and execute them with dedication.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I LOVE being from the south so my idea of a great week long trip to Atlanta right now would be breakfast at The Atlanta Breakfast Club, finding some unique threads at one of the many local clothing stores like Walter’s an Atlanta staple! Though I am a South Carolinian, when I visit other cities I like to feel like I I’m from that city so I’d head over to The Varsity to see what’s going on in the city for lunch. For a night cap I really dig the ATL nightlife so I’d probably start at Elleven45 Lounge and see where the night takes me! I definitely can’t leave out catching one or two Hawks, Falcons, or Atlanta United FC games for some action!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This ShoutOut is dedicated to my brother,The MadddArtist, who is no longer with us physically but definitely here spiritually. Roderice Gilliam-Wheeler, and I were best of friends since preschool and we pushed each other since our adolescent days musically to be great! From the days of recording ourselves on tape recorders to his later days of giving his own TED-X talk, we were always pushing each other to be THE BEST and I could never repay him for that may he rest in POWER!
