We had the good fortune of connecting with $WVNK GAWDESS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi $WVNK, what is the most important factor behind your success?
My art puts me in position to showcase my spirit. The connections I make with others through my pursuit is the most important part of my work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The music I make can best be described as a vibe. Vibes may vary depending on atmosphere and emotional state so my approach to my artistry changes the more life I experience. I think my vulnerability sets me apart from others in a way that ironically makes me even more relatable. I get the most excited about interacting with people who genuinely enjoy my music because there’s always a spark in their eye when describing how it makes them feel. My supporters and I exchange those sparks. It’s always more gratifying being recognized for the contents of your heart. I am where I am today because this is where Spirit guided me to be. The journey gets turbulent but I’m built for it! God guides my steps and there are villages praying for my protection. I’ve learned that whatever is meant to be will be and ain’t no way around it. The seeds we sow today bear the fruit we consume tomorrow. I want the world to know we each possess the power to bear some REAL good fruit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was raised on the outskirts of Greenville in the Piedmont area, but I’d travel to the city just about every weekend if I wanted to get active. Most of my favorite spots from back then have been closed or gentrified, but there are still quite a few newfound gems though!

“First we eat, then we do everything else.”
One of my favorite brunch spots is Tupelo Honey. After we’re full of waffles and mimosas, we’d shop! Haywood Mall is cool, but commercial and I’m more so into streetwear fashion, thrifting and just the underground scene in general so I prefer shopping online or low key places like Piez Boutique, APB, and Hyped Experience. I love the downtown area so we’d most likely spend the most time there, just gallivanting and soaking up the sun at Falls Park. We could rent bikes or roller-skate the Swamp Rabbit trail, share a laugh at the Comedy Zone, catch some poetry at Underground Coffee, post up at the Bohemian Hotel or just chill and have some drinks at Gather! I’m more of a homebody these days but when I’m outside you can always catch me by the speaker! Red@28th, Vibez, and Visionz are some of my favorite Black owned lounges.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Trinity! My soul sisters. My tribe. Through prayer and the pursuit of love we were aligned, and their presence in my life has been nothing short of divine. In my darkest days their light has sustained me.
