We had the good fortune of connecting with $WVNK GAWDESS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi $WVNK, why did you pursue a creative career?
I don’t believe anyone outright chooses to be an artist.. I think it more so chooses you. If anything, those who are chosen must decide whether or not to accept their destiny. All creatives are born with a spark that can either be fed or smothered depending on circumstances, environment and other stimuli. If fed, the spark becomes a flame. As children, we all naturally possessed a carefree and curious spirit that encouraged us to explore and create and simply be as we pleased. I feel like the older we get, we allow other peoples projections or opinions on what/who we should do, want or be override our innate sense of self- ultimately dousing that flame. I decide to fuel my fire with my art because it is quite literally what keeps me warm.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Aside from skill, I believe my spirit is what sets me apart from others. Flaws and all- my heart is pure. I have the ability to be felt without physical touch, and I take a lot of pride in that. My journey as an artist directly coincides with my path as a person. My perspective warrants a broad and unique spectrum of experiences, which I try to translate through my work. Though I consider myself a a spirit having a human experience, I am not exempt from the undulating perils of humanhood. On the harder days, I go easier on myself. I learned that maintaining an attitude of gratitude and trusting God makes all the difference. I encourage my listeners and loved ones to believe. Trust the process and continue to walk by faith and not by sight,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m originally from Greenville, SC but I recently moved to Spartanburg, SC. I’m still in the Upstate area so my favorite places to visit haven’t changed. (Haywood Mall, Falls Park, Hyped Experience, Piez Boutique, Cava, Southern Culture, Sparetime, Vibez, Red@28th, etc.)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a huge shoutout to my team members over at Winter97. They’ve contributed greatly to making my vision come alive and help to keep me consistent. I’d also like to thank my soul sisters of Trinity, for being incessantly supportive of not only my progression as an artist but my personal and spiritual development as well.
