We had the good fortune of connecting with Winslow Jones Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Winslow Jones, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I am the President of Atlanta Young Republicans, a non-profit political social club in the metro Atlanta area. The most important factor behind our brand is harnessing a team of volunteers selectively chosen based their talents and commitment to serve on our board and carry out our mission. Our mission is to bring young fiscal conservatives together through networking social events and get out the vote days of action, to provide opportunities to meet local and state elected officials and accomplished leaders in various industries and political movements, to learn about the political process, and to help Republicans win elections up and down the ballot during an election cycle.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a physical therapist by trade and volunteer in local politics through my service as President of Atlanta Young Republicans. What potentially sets me apart from others would be that my background is rather versatile. I performed in professional musical theatre in my 20s and ventured into healthcare with my pursuit of a doctorate of physical therapy going into my 30s. I have consistently worked in outpatient orthopedics for the past 9 years and earned my Orthopedic Clinical Specialist certification in 2022. Aside from my PT career, I have immersed much of my free time outside of my 9-5 into local Republican politics in the past 4 years. I would say our particular brand as the Atlanta Young Republicans is that we are a group of well-rounded working professionals from various careers and disciplines and represent “the big tent” of the Republican party. We generally stand united on the principles of limited government, personal responsibility, free market capitalism, and preserving law and order as set forth by our US Constitution. We also welcome the debate of ideas surrounding social issues of which people tend to be diverse in political opinion across the spectrum more so than economic and national security issues. As a person from non-political background having found a purpose with involvement in local politics, I can safely affirm that I represent this brand as the President of AYR.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It really depends on the time of year! However, first thing would be a bike ride along the Beltline and/or walk around Inman Park/Ponce City Market area to all the local restaurants and bars. Hitting up the Atlanta Botanical Gardens on a nice day in the spring or Christmas night lights with a warm cup of rum and apple cider from Nov-Jan is also a must. Venturing further north, one shouldn’t miss downtown Roswell Live at 5 every third Thursday from April-October or the speakeasy Roaring Social in Alpharetta any time of the year. And in the summer, floating down the Chattahoochie River with friends, floats, and drinks is fun in the sun!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank our generous sponsors who give to our organization each year, most notably Former Senator Kelly Loeffler, the late Holly Gardner, and Betsy Kramer. I’d also like to give a shout out to our current board of directors for all of the volunteer hours of hard work, and our two immediate past presidents Gabe Hartwig and Allen English for paving the way for our organization to continue its growth and success.
