We had the good fortune of connecting with WillieMack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi WillieMack, why did you pursue a creative career?
Honestly, I really had no choice. I know it sounds cliché but it chose me. Music is in my blood it runs through every fiber of my being . I remember being a kid and seeing Usher’s “My Way video for the first time , seeing him flawlessly executing the chorography full out all while belting “She likes it my way” changed my life forever. I thought to myself “If that’s what I have to do to get a fly trench coat like that I’m in !

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My music is a mixture of everything I’ve ever been through, everything I’ve experienced and everything I hold dear to my heart. The path to get here was not an easy one. There have been plenty of false starts to say the least. I started making my own music in 2013 using an old iPhone 4. You should’ve heard some of those songs they were terrible LOL but I was having so much fun creating them. I later moved on and started working with the management company but things quickly soured and I was back at square one. In 2018 I started to regain my confidence as an artist and started working on a EP. Although I liked the music I was making and was grateful to be back in the studio again ,I was not really in love with the music. At the top of 2021 I scratched the whole EP and decided to start brand new I had no idea where the music was coming from or what I would even write about I just wanted to make something I knew I would love like those terrible songs I was making in my room on the raggedy iPhone. Nine months later handsome was born it is my first EP and I am so proud of it I play it all the time. I’m proud of it for a number of reasons it showed me that I can actually finish what I started and it gave me further proof that I’m on the right path.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Now Atlanta has so much to do and see if you’re not careful it can be a bit overwhelming , but if you really wanna have a good time you have to go to the outskirts. Definitely would have to visit anything on the beltline. You can’t take 3 steps without running into a bar or restaurant that will provide infinite vibes. After that we would get all dressed up and make our way over to the historic Apache café to hear some of the best underground independent artist you have ever heard.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success thus far has definitely been a communal effort. My mother my siblings and my best friend have played a major role and have been the main source of support in my artistry. That being said I would like to dedicate this this shoutout to my 7th grade show choir teacher Janet Montgomery. She was the first person outside of family that really saw me for who I was and helped nurture who I wanted to be. She put me in plays gave me solos and encouraged me to be the performer I imagined in my mind but was to afraid to show to the world She made me feel like I could really be a star, that I could really make music a life long career in any way I saw fit. She took me to my first studio session and that was the first time I was able to pop in a cd and hear my voice coming out !!!! At the age of 13 It blew my mind. It also served as a catalyst for me and enabled me to dream big ! I will forever be grateful that God crossed our paths.
