Meet Willie Chiles aka Anewmefr | Servant of Jesus Christ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Willie Chiles aka Anewmefr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Willie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. My grandma, Sarah, used to always make sure I would never miss church on Sunday. She also had me singing in youth choir. Soon after that I was playing the alto saxophone.

Music has always had a place in my life.

It wasn’t until my jr year of high school that I started recording and releasing songs. Before that I was already writing songs, as a way to express myself when I felt I had no one to talk to. I came up with name Clay Maskin and rolled with that for years. I was going through a real rebellious stage in life and I made a lot of poor decisions and lived a lifestyle that glorified drugs, sex, violence, money, and sin. God continue to show me grace and mercy

even when I was running away from his calling

but in ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬ it says “Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

So I ended up making my way back home

once I fully submitted myself to serving Jesus Christ. My Clay Maskin identity was killed and I became ANewMe. A-New-Me- and the fr is short for for real. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬. I would not be who I am today if I did not stop rebelling against Jesus Christ. I had to rid myself of the antichrist spirit that I allowed to take a hold of me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was once a secular artist but those days are behind me. I now make music that gives Praise to Jesus Christ for what he has done for me. I also use the music to preach repentance and the consequences of sinful living. “And they went out, and preached that men should repent.” Mark‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬. The Gospel music that God allows me to make is not the traditional sound. I was able to keep my original style but changed the message in my songs. I used to promote sin but now I promote the Greatness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I’m excited to see how God plans to use me to further the mission of his heavenly kingdom. The only reason I am where I am today is strictly by the grace of God. I’m not gone cap, the transition wasn’t easy because I was definitely holding onto things that were pulling me down. Truthfully, I couldn’t be a hypocrite and I really have to practice what I preach. Through discipline (praying and fasting) I was able to break the chains off. I learned that without faith you are going to fail. “(for we walk by faith, not by sight:)” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬ I want the world to know that you need to admit you are a sinner and be willing to turn from sin and repent and believe that Jesus Christ died for you. He was crucified, buried and rose from the dead and took the sins of the world with Him. You have to be able to invite Jesus into your heart to become your personal savior and live righteous to inherit the gift of eternal life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The city of Columbia doesn’t really have a lot in my opinion. Five points or The Vista has some cool little spots to grab food. You could always hit Frankie’s Fun Park or The Riverbank Zoo. I will say recently I have been spending a lot of time at the Congaree River on the River Walk chilling on the rocks. That’s a really peaceful atmosphere. I sit on the rocks and reflect on how amazing our God is.
