We had the good fortune of connecting with William “Prince” Linton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William “Prince”, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, the thought to start my own business started from my mom believe it or not aha. I first worked for Apple while attending Florida A&M University sity as an At-Home AppleCare Advisor, so many of my friends and family members would run to me with whatever questions or issues they may have with various devices. My mom also owned a hair salon around the time, so of course she would brag to her clients and in turn they would have questions or need assistance as well. From there she kind of suggested I started a company that helped people get familiar with technology they already had or wanted to purchase. I never started the business; however, I kept the thought in the back of my mind. Fast forward a few years and I started working for Apple again in Retail. While working, I noticed how many people came in uneducated, needing assistance, and/or wanting a deeper explanation or 1:1 session, however if you’ve ever visited an Apple Store, you’re familiar with the fast-paced environment and how everything is mostly appointment based. After helping customers and receiving feedback about how positive of an experience I provided, they would often ask if I offered any help outside of my actual job. Because of a conflict of interest I couldn’t while working at Apple, but eventually I quit and began to invest in my own business that can still provide excellent advice and assistance to those who may not understand tech well, or would like to have personal sessions to learn what tech can do to simplify your life/tasks. There’s so much that people don’t understand about technology, how it works, or what it can do, and I want to be the one that helps them grasp a better picture.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a Tech and Smart Home Automation business that offers services ranging from consultations and 1 on 1 sessions to in home setup as well as troubleshooting. My goal is to be that tech person for businesses, artists, and other individuals who would appreciate personal help with their technology. I believe what sets me a part from others in my field is the knowledge and experience that I have with most of the products people use on a daily basis. Knowing how the ecosystem of products work together helps you accurately advise consumers on what pieces of technology may be best for what goals they are trying to accomplish vs what they want. Getting where I am today business wise hasn’t necessarily been easy, but I wouldn’t say it has been a struggle either. People will always need to know how to use technology, so it’s more of just getting started and getting the word out to the right individuals. One of the most important lessons that I’ve learned along the way is to just do it. I highly dislike doing things without knowing the possible outcomes of the situation, but quickly realized I needed to get over that and take risks. Something that I would like people to take away from my brand/story is to never give up. No matter how hard things get, or how unsure tomorrow may seem, always keep pushing forward.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh! Easy — I don’t really go out to clubs a lot, but most of these places offer hookah and drinks with music. Monday we’re heading over to Josephine’s Lounge for R&B Karaoke night, that’s always a vibe. Tuesday we’re going to Taco Tuesday to RReal Taco’s, any location hits and their drinks slap. Wing Wednesday we’re stopping by Hungry AF on Candler Road for Cool Whiz or ChrisStainless wings. Thursday we’re relaxing for weekend, but Friday and Saturday night we’d probably visit a spot like Sovereign Sweet’s or Soigné Garden. It wouldn’t be a complete night if you didn’t drive by Cheshire Bridge to show how packed it is on that street at 3-4am, haha it’s like a block party. Lastly, for brunch we have several options, but my favorite would be Toast on Lenox.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
You know that African saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”? Well, that has really proven to be true over the course of my life. I would definitely first like to give a shoutout to God. He’s been a major key player in everything I’ve been able to accomplish and make it through. I would like to especially give a shout out to my mom and dad. My mom has continuously encouraged and believed in me even when I didn’t sometimes or needed that extra push. My dad has faced many obstacles that many didn’t expect him to overcome; but he now works for the federal government in a six figure position and works every day to improve that. He, to me, represents not only a father but a source of encouragement and mentorship as well. Additionally, my aunts/uncles, close friends, and whoever recommended me for this article — shoutout to y’all for always having my best interests at heart and making sure I continue to progress forward. Love y’all!
