We had the good fortune of connecting with William Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been creative i can remember building wooden toys as a child , over the years I have developed my skills by reading and occasionally taking a class, when I first started build my furniture I felt alone but when I discovered the woodworking community it was like a whole new world opened up with men and women as passionate about woodworking as me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create kids Toyboxes and animal chairs all of my creations are handcrafted no two pieces are alike. When I started carving my animal chairs I realized that I had a gift for it I like to say my ancestors are guiding my hands as I carve. I want everyone to know it’s never too late for your dreams to come true I started late in life building my furniture it surely won’t make me rich but it makes me and my customers happy .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well a lot of my friends are also woodworkers so I would take them to Highland Hardware the premier woodworking store in Atlanta and then to The Varsity for lunch.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
@workbenchconference for bringing woodworkers together each year in Atlanta to network
