We had the good fortune of connecting with William Burden Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi William, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a passion for art and sneakers. I used to watch plenty of YouTube videos to learn how to paint sneakers. My sophomore year of high school me & my friend bought cheap paint from Walmart & started experimenting on old sneakers. As time went by after dropping out of college, I felt that it was right timing to give it a shot. Starting with only a water bottle, brush, and three acrylic paints I started Bird Customs.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve gotten to where I’m at in my career right now from making sacrifices. I’ve sacrificed jobs, & countless hours of sleep to pursue what I love. Like other entrepreneurs no it wasn’t easy. If I said it was easy then I’d be lying. There were plenty of setbacks along the way. I’ve overcome challenges by having a strong support system & never giving up. My proudest moment was when Panthers guard Dennis Daley messaged me to do two pair of cleats for NFL my cause my cleats.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person that inspired me to start restoring sneakers was YouTuber RetroSnickers. He would make videos bringing an old heavily worn shoe back to life. Another influence on my career is artist Sierato. He’s another creator that I watched to learn how to customize shoes. They played a big role in the start of my career.
