Meet Will Preston | Recording Artist & Founder of My Best Interest Apparel

We had the good fortune of connecting with Will Preston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Will, how do you think about risk?
Risk has really been at the center of everything I’ve done, both in music and in building my clothing line. For me, risk isn’t about being reckless, but it’s more about trusting your vision even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. When I stepped into music, I knew I was entering a space filled with talent, competition, and uncertainty, but I believed in my voice and my perspective. Releasing my debut project independently was a huge leap because I didn’t have a label or machine behind me. The reward was freedom in having the ability to create from an authentic place and connect directly with people who resonate with my artistic vision and sound.
That same mindset carries over into My Best Interest Apparel. Starting a brand in a highly competitive fashion landscape is a risk, but I didn’t focus on risk because I was doing something I felt called to do. It wasn’t about dominating the competition. I saw it as an extension of who I am creatively. I wasn’t interested in just putting out another hoodie or t-shirt. I wanted to build something rooted in luxury, purpose, and identity. That means investing in quality, telling bold stories through the designs, and sharing my vision with the world, which are all calculated risks.
At the end of the day, the biggest risk is not taking one at all. If you never step out of your comfort zone, you’ll never know what’s possible. For me, every risk has led to growth. That doesn’t mean that everything will go smoothly, but I’ve always gained the clarity and resilience to keep moving forward.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art has always been about connection. Whether through music or fashion, I want people to feel something real. Maybe it’s hearing a lyric that speaks to what they’re going through or wearing a piece that makes them stand a little taller. What sets me apart is that I’m not chasing trends. I’ve never been into that. I’m intentional about telling stories, whether in a song that captures the push and pull of love or in a hoodie stitched with details that say “luxury is in the little things.”
In music, I’d say I stand out because of my focus on melody and honesty. I grew up inspired by artists like Babyface, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin, who never needed gimmicks. It was pure emotion and storytelling. That influence shows up in my own work, like my single Merry Go Round or my upcoming album Erratic Heartbeats, which both dive into the complexities of love and human emotion. The things we all experience.
With My Best Interest, what excites me most is that it’s not just clothing. It’s a declaration. From the initial launch of the Weekender and Afterhours hoodies to the new Prologue Series t-shirts, everything was designed with craftsmanship and purpose. Each piece says, “I’m prioritizing myself, my goals, and my identity.” That message of self-investment is what I’m most proud of. There is nothing wrong with being proud of self.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Independent artistry and launching a fashion brand both come with rejection, doubt, and trial and error. There were moments when things didn’t go as planned. Things like delays, missteps with partnerships, or times when I felt like I was pouring everything in without knowing what would come back. In fact, I still have those moments. But I know that resilience and consistency are everything. You don’t give up because of the hurdles; you adapt, learn, and keep moving forward.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that success is built in layers. Every song, every performance, every hoodie release is a brick in the bigger vision. I want the world to know that my story, both as an artist and as a brand owner, is about choosing yourself, investing in your best interest, and not being afraid to build something meaningful from the ground up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friends were visiting Atlanta for a week, I’d want to give them a full experience with a mix of the city’s energy, great food, creativity, and some downtime to just relax and enjoy the moment of being away.
We’d definitely start with food, because Atlanta’s food scene is unmatched. I love brunch spots, so a place like Toast on Lenox or Breakfast at Barney’s would be a must. I’d also cook at least one dinner at home, because my friends always say they look forward to my cooking just as much as going out. A home-cooked dinner with music and good conversation is one of my favorite ways to entertain.
For nightlife, we’d hit a couple of cocktail lounges. Definitely somewhere stylish but chill where we can enjoy good drinks with great vibes. Atlanta also has an incredible live music scene which I’ve been a part of on many occasions. I love being on the other side of the stage as a spectator, so I’d make sure we caught a show or two, whether it’s a big concert or something more intimate that captures the soul of the city.
A Hawks or Falcons game would definitely make the itinerary. That energy is something you can’t replicate anywhere else. But I’d also balance that with downtime; maybe a a visit to Ponce City Market, or just relaxing at home catching up, because all of my friends are busy and sometimes the best part of a trip is simply having time together.
They’d possibly spend some time with me in the studio, especially since I’m finishing up a project. That’s such a big part of my life right now. They might also witness me working on something related to My Best Interest Apparel, because I the CEO of all things Will Preston and life doesn’t stop for friend visits or vacations (laughs).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I truly believe we are the sum of our experiences, and that’s absolutely true of where I am today. There isn’t just one person or one moment I could point to because my journey has been shaped by so many people, influences, and communities along the way.
First, I have to acknowledge my family and friends who’ve always been in my corner. They’ve been there to celebrate every aspect of the journey and will forever be regarded as a critical link in the chain of success.
I also owe a lot to the people who poured into me musically from a distance; people like the artists I grew up enjoying and later studying (Luther, Lionel Richie, Whitney, Gladys Knight, Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Aretha, and others). Every voice, every melody I’ve absorbed has influenced how I approach my own artistry.
On the fashion side, I’ve been inspired by entrepreneurs and designers who aren’t afraid to carve their own lane. Watching how others built brands with purpose and vision gave me the confidence to create My Best Interest Apparel and stay true to the idea that luxury can be both meaningful and personal.
And of course there’s the fans and supporters. Whether it’s someone who pressed play on my music or someone who chose to invest in one of my clothing pieces, they’ve all played a part in pushing me forward. At the end of the day, none of this happens in isolation. It’s a collective effort, and I’m grateful for every person and every influence that’s left a fingerprint on my story.
