We had the good fortune of connecting with Wilkeydra Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wilkeydra, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make, was recently leaving my steady job to pursue my career full-time. Anyone starting a business know one the hardest decision is when to take that risk and step out on faith. I was working a 9-5 job with great pay, wonderful benefits, and a work-life-balance. However, with everything so wonder, I was not happy with what I was doing because it was something I didn’t want to do long term. On October 12, I made that difficult decision and it felt great.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of passing the state board in 2021 and becoming a licensed nail technician. Also for getting my business license and LLC in 2022. I now feel like an official business. I made it this far by learning from my instructor, other nail techs, and especially from my mistakes. It is not a walk-in the park. I have faces challenges such as not having clients to showcase my work nor having the time to do nails, lack of business knowledge, the list could go on, haha. The nail business is far from easy, but it’s so worth every tear I’ve shed, failed attempts, and pain and heartache I’ve felt.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love karaoke so the first spot of the night would be at MICS that has private karaoke. Great time with a group of friends. Want to enjoy a movie go to IPIC, I loved it. It was luxury with a blanket and great food. If you want to do brunch on Sunday, definitely reserve or go early because all the brunch spots will be packed. My favorite brunch spot is Lily with the mega Mimosa.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my bestfriend Sharice and my family!!!. They are my biggest supporters. Without them I wouldn’t have had the courage to start my business. My bestfriend is always there to help promote my business, motivate me to do better than before, and encourages me when I’m my worst critic. My family, especially my sisters Shonda and Marnesia have always told me to pursue my business and take the risk. That’s because they have a business of their own, and they know you should never put your dreams on hold for anyone.
