We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Vazquez Reyes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor that takes part into my success is ambition and passion. I looked at a video on Instagram that was talking about how we should t let passion drive us because it’ll eventually get us nowhere. Well that video was wrong. I believe if you’re truly passionate about something you won’t let it die off too easily. If you are a person that wants to pursue a business you have to have passion into any business you start, if not you’re driving yourself in a ditch. You won’t ever succeed without really wanting success. I believe that it is wrong to tell young people, “You can’t let passion drive you.” That’s pathetic! It’s like crushing a kids dream. Instead tell the young people of this generation that they can do, they can make it. Just put in the work and don’t half ass anything you dive into.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my brand Lashes Upgraded out of my basement in September of 2020. I specialize in the application of eyelash extensions. It was very difficult at first, who do you know that can use both their hands simultaneously? I had many marketing challenges in which I found my way to work around. I had a heard time gaining clientele being a home based business, but with a little help of my social media and I was up and running. I moved into my first suite in the following year in Buckhead Atlanta and I love it there. Shoutout to @Shoplashenvy for taking me in and being a huge inspiration to my success. In Atlanta, there’s so many ways to keep a business going, the possibilities are endless. I love the opportunity here!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would say the trail on Vaughters farm is the best way you can clear your head. If you’re like me and want to get away from everything for awhile, I’d say this is the place to go. I also love going to a good coffee spot where the vibe is amazing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I believe that my father and mother deserve all the recognition in my success. My mother passed away in August of 2021 and it’s safe to say I wouldn’t be the woman I am without her. She was spectacularly intelligent when it came to business, she was like a rolling ball that wouldn’t stop, she had so many business ventures, so many ideas it was never ending. I’m going to turn 20 in December and my only wish is that I made her proud. To be honest no one could’ve shaped my business oriented mind more than her or my father. She was the mind and his work drive motivated me. Anyone who knows me personally can attest to that.
