We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Teyf and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Expressions In Motion Dance program was created because I saw the need for convenient and affordable dance education. I created this program while working as a full-time dance teacher in a public school where I met many students that had not been introduced to the world of dance. These students needed an outlet for their physical and mental well-being. As a parent myself, I have noticed even more now that parents are busy and need high quality after school programs like ours. Parents are excited that after a long day of work or taking care of their other children, they are able to pick up their child from school and they have already had a fun extracurricular activity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As the director and owner of Expressions In Motion Dance, I know that EIM Dance is much better and different from the other mobile dance programs. EIM Dance is geared towards offering the same dance education a child would receive in a studio, but in a more convenient setting. We pride ourselves on excellent customer satisfaction as we are continuously checking in with our staff and customers on their review of our services. Creating a mobile dance program has not been easy because we are relying on many others to make it all work. Our program is spread out over and around the Atlanta area which means we need many wonderful staff members to keep the program running smoothly. I have learned that owning a business is not only the most rewarding career I have had but also the most challenging. Owning a business is a 24/7 job and when you are the owner, you are entirely responsible for the outcome of every single moment. I have learned that it is important to not stay stagnant, to continue to evolve, and be innovative to keep customers coming back and coming in. I would like the world to know that I created this program because I believe that every child should have the ability to experience the joy of dance. Movement is overly important for children and dance is great for any child’s social, emotional, and mental well-being.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the Atlanta area we would have endless opportunities to enjoy food, shopping, and leisure. First I would take them to get some amazing BBQ at Fox Bros. We would then continue on to the Ferris wheel next to Centennial Park. After the Ferris wheel we would take the CNN tour and have dinner at the CNN center. On another day we may take a more relaxing approach and travel to Serenbe to enjoy a relaxing stay at one of the beautiful cottages on the farm. We would shop at the Serenbe shops and enjoy tasty meals at one of the delicious Serenbe restaurants.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This business has been successful thanks to the encouragement of my family. They have constantly been there to cheer me on, give advice, encourage me to take risks and be innovative, to not give up, and to get me through the great and tough times.
