Meet Whitney Rain | Watercolor Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Rain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Taking everything one single little tiny step at a time. I started all of this with zero painting or business experience and a brand new baby. The process was slow and it took a lot of patience but by working on this dream everyday, even if it was only for a few minutes, I was able to make huge progress over a long period of time.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I began painting in 2015 after stepping away from a career as an engineer. I am especially inspired by nature with its peaceful energy and imperfect beauty. I felt drawn to paint what I saw and experienced outdoors because I love that nature reflects the values I treasure most in life – growth, progression, simplicity, and intentionality. Creativity has also helped me to find purpose and fulfillment alongside being a mom and I hope the happiness I feel while painting shows through in my artwork and products. Getting to this point in my creative career was far from easy. It is a constant challenge to try to propel both my artwork and my business forward. There is a delicate balance between keeping my creativity alive and well and maintaining all the moving parts of a business. Some days as an entrepreneur are so incredibly rewarding but most days are not. Most days are filled with slow and quiet work, without much applause. What I’ve learned is that you have to put in a lot of these slow and quiet days, working hard on what matters, before you will see any outward results. Growing a business requires a lot of patience and commitment but, in my opinion, it is so worth it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I have a toddler, my favorite place in Atlanta is the aquarium! Yes it’s great for kids but it is also so much fun for adults. And if you want a night out, the Fox Theatre is a really nice venue to see a live show.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my Shoutout to my husband. When you are going out on your own as an entrepreneur, it feels scary and risky and everything is an unknown. Part of moving forward is accepting that this is the reality of running a creative business, but it is so life giving to have at least one person that whole-heartedly believes in you and what you’re doing and what you’re capable of. When I began making the transition from being an engineer to becoming a full time artist not many people understood what I was doing. Even now many people just see what I am doing as a hobby. But my husband knew that this was so much more and constantly picked me up on those inevitable days when I felt down. I’m so grateful I have someone to cheer me on when it would’ve been easy to quit. I’m so grateful for his support and now the support of many others as I continue to build my creative business.
