We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Kemp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson is that there is more than one way to get the job done. Never let anyone tell you that there is only one road to success. I love the unconventional way!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Glam Gatzby Brand is an experience. Yes, I have hair products. Yes, I sell clothing items, but there’s more to it. My creative side takes control of the entire vibe. My style of advertising is more of me sharing a unique experience. I compare it to art because in my mind, I want the people that I encounter to feel more than a nice garment but to feel high and positive vibrations.
The Glam Gatzby experience is one that I hope to share with many.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m from a somewhat small town but it’s growing swiftly because of it being a college town. We would definitely have to go to all of my favorite spots. I love food, so we would go to the Bean Me Up Scottie vegan food truck. We would have to set up a photoshoot with JKnoxPhotography and after that, we would have to check out my favorite spa, High Life Image. I can’t forget to swing by the local theater and watch PorscheNichole. She’s an aspiring actress. If my friend isn’t feeling the vegan vibe that day, I would take her to Big Dawgs Bessemer, Zannie Mays or Agatha’s Eatery. They have amazing food! Oh yeah, and for entertainment Shamie D (Unapologetically Passionate show host) and Callin’ The Shots with DonLuLu, and KeraNichelle. If she’s into music, I’d have to introduce her to a music guru Professor P.J. Howard.
We would get our makeup done by by Jasmine Pullins and our hair done by @AshleytheHairstylist.
If she wants her graphics done, look no further that Twenty4Studios! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can not do any of this without God. He made a way when I thought my time was up. Though I feel unworthy at times, HE still renews my ideas and creativity. He deserves ALL of the credit!
Most definitely my daughter Kylie. She saved me from a world of trouble. If I would not of had her, I probably wouldn’t be here!
