We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Evans-Whipple and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Living in a smaller city, I felt like it was a fight to get the beauty services that I wanted. No matter what, I was always traveling far away to get my hair, or nails done. I wanted to bridge that gap when it came to lash extensions. I knew that there was a need in my community, and that I could give it to them.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Waking up and choosing yourself everyday is hard, imagine doing that for yourself and your brand. Everyday. I wouldn’t change it for a thing though. The biggest thing that made me a solidified lash artist was waking up everyday and treating my brand like my job. I would get up and get to work at 10am, even without clients. I would make content, take models, talk to my audience. Go home around 6pm, and repeat the next day. I always chose Bandit Beauty (my brand). If you want something to work, YOU have to work at it. Social media makes things look easy, but it is work. Hard, but rewarding work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, okay so in Columbia, SC the BEST place for brunch is Breakfast at Ruiz! The food is delicious, and the space is intimate! You’re right around the corner from the Riverwalk, honestly you can walk! In the warmer months they offer water activities on the river! For lunch, head over to Blue Marlin! From their dishes to their salads, it is something for everybody! Head over to Main Street and check out the Museum of Art! I’m really proud of what Columbia is doing! Walk a few streets up to Hendrix, enjoy the best views and great cocktails!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad. That guy is my best friend. The minute I told him I wanted to start a business, he told me I needed to make a plan. After some time, and PLENTY of thought; I was able to show him what I had been working on. After that, he was full speed ahead. He listens, reflects, and allows me to still have control! I love him for that, shoutout to my Dad.
