Meet Whitness | Singer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitness and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitness, how do you think about risk?
I think about risk as an opportunity to go beyond my comfort zone and discover the unknown. Before ever taking a risk, I always hope that the outcome is in my favour, but life doesn’t always work that way. I often have to push through my fears and anxiety in faith, and trust that any risk I take will work out. Even when some things don’t go in my favour, theres always a lesson to be learned and in doing so, my comfort zone is also expanded. Risk taking has played a huge role in my career as an artist. I really have to put myself out there and be vulnerable with each and every person that listens to my music, every studio I walk in to record, and each time I step on stage to perform. You never really know what you’re going to get and how people are going to receive you, nonetheless, I show up each and every time and deliver to the best of my abilities. Without taking risks in my life and career, there would be absolutely no way for me to get ahead.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Singer-Songwriter, I am dedicated to taking my life stories and experiences and sharing them with the world in a melodic way that people can relate to and find familiarity and comfort in. I started singing at church when I was 4 years old, and I have never stopped. Music has always been a constant in my life, and through the good times and the bad, I’ve always turned to it to help get me through. Now, I write music in hopes that it will also help people get their minds off the struggles going on in the world and focus of my sound to uplift them. One thing that sets me apart from others around me are my vast experiences. I’ve lived in many different places, met plenty of faces, had ups and downs and I transmute that all into my music. Looking back on this year, I am so proud of myself for the amount of performances and shows I’ve had since the beginning of the year. It seems like not even a week goes by before I’m booked for something else. Honestly, it’s been such a blessing. I’m also looking forward to my newest single ‘Let It Go’ being released on November 11th, and the R&B ‘Fresh Up’ festival I’m taking part in! This new song is one for the books, and I’ve been sitting on it for a while so now that I’m ready to share it, I can’t wait! I got to where I am today professionally by never giving up. I’ve heard some no’s and many yes’s, but if I just focused on the negative responses I received and didn’t push myself to keep on trying until I get another yes, I would have failed before I even started. It wasn’t easy because music is very subjective just like food, and either you like the sound or you don’t… and not everyone is going to like your sound. That didn’t ever deter me though as I always knew that the more I continue to put myself out there, the more likely it is for me to find my tribe of people who like me for me, and want to show real support and love towards me. In addition, I did plenty of networking years before I put any music out into the world and I continue to do so. Not only so I meet people within the industry, but so I also develop an understanding of how this music world works and what not to do in order to secure my success. The main lesson I have learned along the way is to believe in my self so fervently and to always show up prepared. One thing I want the world to know about my story is that all it takes is faith and working towards your goals and you can achieve all of your lofty dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area for a week, and I wanted to show her the time of her life I would start off by making sure she is settled in, then depending on the time of day she arrives, I would take her on a breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner date and then grab some drinks after. In more detail, I would love for us to check out the Atlanta Botanical Garden in the afternoon, get some fresh air, and then after grabbing dinner and a view at Nikolai’s Roof we’d head to the Skyview ferris wheel to get another view of the city and have some more fun. while being out and about. There are so many fun places to discover within the city, and I’d make sure that everyday was filled with time spent outdoors at some park, then make our way to somewhere nice for our meals and then we would visit another tourist attraction to make some more memories.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t say there is any particular person I would dedicate the shoutout to, but I would like to recognize my family, friends and community at large for supporting me in my journey. Without the many people who have helped me, shown me love, or supported me in one way or another, I thank you. Whether it was through listening to my music, coming out to my shows, giving words of encouragement, sharing my stories online, or even mentioning my name inside any room that contributed to my success, I’m truly grateful. No person is an island, and to know I have so much support from so many people I know and don’t know is such a heartwarming feeling.
