Meet What’s Hoppining Scott Croston, Edouard Charles, Garrett Boots | Beer Connoisseurs

We had the good fortune of connecting with What’s Hoppining Scott Croston, Edouard Charles, Garrett Boots and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi What’s Hoppining, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Truly, it started over Thanksgiving dinner in 2012. Ed and Scott were all trying beers when we thought, “Hey, we should do this ourselves.” We created a name and we just jumped into it. We wanted to talk about beer, drink beer, and just have fun. Life happened and What’s Hoppining was put on a back burner until 2018, when we did a relaunch. Ed worked with Boots, and Boots just adored beer. He knew that Boots needed to meet Scott, and the trio was born. We wanted to highlight our community, fellow beerfluencers and brewers, and we especially wanted to spotlight the diversity. It’s all about the love of craft beer, and over the years we have watched Georgia and Atlanta craft beer really change and grow with our brand. Admittedly, in the beginning, it was just about drinking beer. Now, What’s Hoppining has become an outlet to tell the stories behind the beers we drink.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think one thing that sets us apart is that most people just talk about the beer. We’re doing interviews, talking to brewers and distributors, and trying to really encompass the craft beer scene. What’s Hoppining is exactly what it sounds like–it’s about what’s happening. What’s happening in Atlanta, what’s happening with releases, what’s happening in our community. We always go out of our way to highlight other people; it’s not just about us, it’s about where we’re at and who we’re with too. What’s Hoppining doesn’t end with the three of us. What’s Hoppining is a show about community, for our community, and we’re very proud of that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone is looking for a weekend in Atlanta, filled with craft beer, we’ve got plenty of suggestions.
For Boots, it’s easily Monday Night and Variant. Boots loves barrel ages stouts and hazy IPA’s, and both of those breweries make the best of both of those styles in Atlanta.
For Ed, he’d choose 6 Bridges and Scofflaw. 6 Bridges is right in his neighborhood, and it’s family. Scofflaw has great IPA’s, and they’ve always treated us well.
For Scott, he’d also choose 6 Bridges, but also Cherry Street and Anderby. The three breweries are close together, within a half hour drive from one another. They all make great beer, and of course 6 Bridges is family. 6 Bridges and Cherry Street have beers for everyone, even people who usually don’t drink craft beer. But, there’s also beer for people with a developed palette and preferences. Anderby is just another excellent brewery with amazing choices. All the breweries have great vibes, and people who work there that actually want to help you find something to drink. People are able to really grow into the craft beer community.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We wholeheartedly give this shoutout to 6 Bridges Brewing. They were the first brewery to welcome us with open arms and take us seriously. It’s our home base; we’ve gotten to grow alongside them. When we first started to build a relationship with them, we were all just locals trying to bring something new to the Atlanta beer scene. We’ve continued to promote one another, and we can say that we’ve truly come into our own side by side. Their support has made a world of difference for us, and we will rep them as often as we can.
