We had the good fortune of connecting with Wayne Flint and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wayne, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My artistic pursuit found me at a time when I was at a low point in my life. A car accident knocked me off my entrepreneurial path in the business industry and turned my life upside down. During the chaos of this time personally and externally, I was able to find respite and passion through creating that was so unexpectedly cathartic. It was important to make a positive contribution to uplift the American culture by the continuous heavy lifting of overturning the negative stereotype of African Americans. Our humanity, achievements, and successes to overcome the chains of our past.
Other focus includes animals and nature which is therapeutic vehicles for our wellness and mental health.
I am most proud of my portraits of every day people in which I can combine generations of family members from past and present into one portrait—> this is an enduring feeling that stays with me and reassures me that my creative passion is feeding the world…one person…one family at a time.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art style is branded globally as digital oil paintings and illustrations. The focus is on uplifting the Culture-> African American- Black and Brown people- whose DNA is interwoven in the foundation of American culture. We have to create our own narrative and fuel the next generations with the confidence and intelligence to counter what the media feeds us. We need to celebrate the inventors, artist, scientist, teachers/educators, doctors, healthcare workers, lawyers, etc—> We are more than rappers, athletes, criminals, and sex- crazed people. The challenge is to have the strength, endurance, and confidence to not be moved or distracted by critics or opinions of others—> positivity will attract positivity.
My journey has not been forced but an organic therapeutic process for myself and others- I deliver work that is meaningful. A family member that has passed on and is now immortalized in a digital oil painting from a cellphone image. The ability to put forth the work that touches people at their core–We are all humans that want to be respected, loved, and treated fair & justly.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
