We had the good fortune of connecting with Waya The Healer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Waya, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from a small town called Lumberton, North Carolina. I was raised by a single mother alongside my older sister. Both hard working black women who taught me the value of persistence. My upbringing wasn’t always the best. There were times I didn’t realize until i was a bit older that we didn’t always have what we needed. My mother would make due with what she had for us. Seeing that was also fuel to my passion with my creativity and brand. I craved the freedom that success brings to just be able to do what you want without worrying everyday. I was also raised in a very religious household and being who I am now is completely opposite than what I was taught growing up. I will say that through those principles I learned to have faith in anything I do cause it’s all possible. But we have to have works with that faith to see the things we want come to fruition.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud of the energy and community I’ve built with my creativity and brand. I’ve crossed paths with people I used to just watch on tv and listen to on the radio. Worked with and network with amazing well known talent . All because I decided to post a tiktok video. I got to where I am by sharing my story on social media my biggest break came from joining tiktok and talking about my life. From then my creativity just began to flow. I took it from re-enactments of my life, to acting scenes, sharing my music with the world, being my everyday self, sharing my spiritual talents and motivating others with daily messages and even cosplay of my favorite characters. This ride has definitely been a roller coaster of emotions. Being a open Trans Man and Two Spirit individual hasn’t always been welcomed by the public. Times I’d get some unkind messages and comments that really had me wanting to just give up. But at the time I was worried about how others felt and not how I truly wanted to live. Now fast forward it’s 2023 and I’m still living unapologetically as myself. With that being said I’d like the world to know I’m here to share my gifts with you how you take it is on you. But you will know I lived truthfully as myself in this world and sparked the change I wished to always see

.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For me here in Fayetteville NC, I’m gonna take them to our cheap theater called the Omni . There we would catch a movie for $5 dollars cause I love a good deal and great time. We’d hit up a metaphysical shop called Dinah’s Dreams and go shopping . I just discovered this place called EarthHouse and they make amazing Smoothie bowls and natural cold press juices that be a small treat one day. Now if we taking it to my hometown there is a place that makes a burger called the Whataburger no affiliation with the restaurant, but it’s a hidden gem in my home town. There’s so much more but those are some fun spots I personally enjoy!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d have to thank Divine first and foremost. I’m deep in my spirituality and giving gratitude to them is a priority always. Especially when given these kind of opportunities. I’d also like to thank my small circle of friends who support me in all I do and have helped me with projects that I’m apart of countless times. And last but not least the Millions of supporters on my social media platforms who have been rocking with me for years and just embracing my unique creativity..
