We had the good fortune of connecting with Ward A. Squires and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ward A., Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
My most important values are never giving up and improvement. If you’re lucky enough to have a purpose and a passion, apply this principle to that focus and emotion. Keep going! Perseverance, diligence, bold energy, and improvement are critical principles for this value and this belief.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would call myself a multi-disciplinary artist. I’m about to launch a sequel to an online show released during the pandemic that looks at past and present architecture with a satirical focus on obscurity. Humour always plays a part in my work, and it’s not always successful in getting that across.
What I’d like the rest of the world to know is that bevron was founded in 1996 by mocking advertising and its frills, resulting in a lighthearted and amusing anti-brand. Just the right amount of facetiousness to be taken seriously.
Division will be my next subject aligned project, another barrier that deserves less attention and one that is propped up by society. It will be my most ambitious project to date, incorporating multiple media and mediums.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother and father encouraged me not to give it away. As Sir Anthony Hopkins eloquently stated, “Keep going; never give up,” so I keep going; this is important to me. Luckily for me, I’ve got purpose and passion, and anyone would have difficulty suggesting I kill it.
