We had the good fortune of connecting with Wangare Aldridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wangare, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
A genuine love for food and cooking is a significant driving force behind my success as a food blogger. When you are passionate about something, it shows in your work, and you are more likely to put in the time and effort required to make it successful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My ability to improvise and adapt to different situations is an important skill that sets me apart. As a food blogger, you may encounter unexpected challenges when developing recipes or writing about food-related topics. I often use trial and error to perfect a recipe and adjust it based on taste tests and feedback. I feel that it shows that I am comfortable experimenting with different flavors and have the knowledge to make substitutions that work well.
The thing that makes me the most proud is that I had the courage to publish my children’s alphabet book. I was unsure of the course it will take, but it is encouraging to watch.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow! If my best friend was visiting, it would be a mix of old and new places to visit. I love trying new spots and what better way to do it than with a friend.
Our itinerary would look a little something like this:
We’d visit Ponce City Market in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. This historic building has been transformed into a mixed-use development that features restaurants, shops, and office space. I love Pancake Social’s brunch, so we would most definitely go there! Some other brunch spots I like are Seven Lamps and Another Broken Egg Cafe.
I’d take my best friend to the Krog Street Market in the Inman Park neighborhood and explore local vendors and artisans. And when we wanted to take a break from the food scene, we can explore some of Atlanta’s cultural attractions like the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta History Center, or the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site. There’s so much to do in Atlanta; I think we’d run out of time before we ran out of places to go. The night scene needs its own section. But if I had to name a few places I enjoy, it’d be The James Room, The W Lounge in Buckhead, and Drawbar.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has a huge part to play in my success. Their support is unwavering and I am grateful to have such great people in my corner. A special recognition however, goes to my son. He constantly encourages me to improve and is my biggest supporter. He is a contributor in my first children’s alphabet book!
