We had the good fortune of connecting with Wade Carey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wade, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I hear a lot of people who say they want to write a book. Sometimes, thoughts get bottled up in your head and an outlet like writing can seem to be a good way to get things out. And it actually is. However, writing a book is another discipline altogether. The amount of time it takes to produce a quality book is hard to fully describe. The patience and perseverance required is something I think gets grossly underestimated.
I obviously do my own writing, but also my own publishing. In order to accomplish this (my 10th book is starting production as of this writing), I had to give up something. You just can’t do something well without sacrificing something else. There’s just not enough time in the day. For me, I had to give up leisure activities. I have a job, family, and home, so stealing from them wouldn’t be fair. I had to steal from myself.
So if you want to do something like write a book, first ask yourself what you’re willing to sacrifice in order to accomplish this. I believe this is true of most endeavors. There’s no substitute for the sweat of your brow if you want to succeed.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve worked in the trucking industry for over 40 years. Back in 2009, I felt a calling to produce stories which elevate biblical truth, and in particular, spiritual warfare. But these stories would be expressly devoid of any man-made religion. There is a difference between faith and man-made religion, the latter of which is often poisonous to many people. I believe God led me to produce books which can act as a torch in the foggy world of religion, but which stay true to biblical teaching.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve gotten pretty laid back in my old age. Having a good cup of coffee while listening to some jazz is what I call fun. Oh, and perhaps a good pizza. Northeast Georgia is beautiful and we do most of our shopping in Athens, which isn’t far from where we live. They’re opening a Costco there soon, and a trip to Costco is big fun in my world.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As my 10th book nears publication, the word count for all of them will exceed 730,000 words. I literally could not publish one single word without my inspiration, which is Jesus Christ.
