Meet Vivian Gilbert | Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vivian Gilbert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vivian, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am a highly creative person, and I am not really conservative. I love to use my imagination to come up with new ideas. A lot of things that I look at that inspires me are things other people created as their own idea like a T.V. show or a movie. I am also a person who likes fiction in the fantasy genre (princesses, dragons, space fantasy, magic, superpowers, fairytales). I am interested in fantasy because I feel that it is a genre that allows the impossible in human beings to be possible. In reality, of course, humans can’t fly, travel at the speed of light, do magic spells, or have beyond human superpowers, but with the fantasy genre, it allowed people to create media and characters that do, showing a possibility of maybe this is how humans would be if this did exist. I want to express my creative possibilities to others.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, during the time this is published, I am still a college/university student. I don’t have such a professional job in creating things in the media yet. As of right now, I am trying to build up my portfolio or impression to people that may want to hire me for jobs/roles, as I create videos on YouTube and posts on Instagram that are parodies of me advertising a product or service under the name that I am known on the Internet as: Pipcorn (Pipcorn’s Port on YouTube, pipcornn on Instagram), (I think I was around 8 to 12 years old when I first thought of it, taking the “o” out of the word popcorn and placing an “i” instead, creating it for my gmail account, and it just stayed with me ever since). However, I can’t wait for the day to come where it does, which I believe will happen through God’s grace. I have had personal obstacles that I had to face for me to be where I currently am, and I don’t plan on backtracking at all. I know what I want to be in life, and with God’s help and the people that supports me supporting me, I will get there. Who I am as a creative person is something that I don’t think I should bottle up for the sake of getting a career that pays well, but doesn’t allow me to make my own moves. My faith in Jesus as well, as I am Christian, has taught me to live by his word, and put him in everything I do. I plan to incorporate lessons from Christian faith in the media I create. I want to show people what I can come up with, giving them the opportunity to appreciate what I have done, and maybe even teaching some valuable lessons in my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am actually not really a person that goes out a lot since I have more of a introverted side to me. However, a place that I would take someone to would probably be the Atlanta Botanical Garden here in Atlanta, Georgia. It would be a sight for myself as well as I have never been before. I love flowers and nature is something that can bring out my creative spirit. As far as food, I would probably take them to the Varsity. I went when I was in the 11th grade on a field trip with my high school english teacher. It is an iconic Atlanta restaurant, being a piece of Atlanta’s food history, and it’s still the many original businesses in Atlanta that still stands. Also not forgetting the good taste of their hot dogs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my family for believing in me and helping me with the things I do. Without their support, I’d probably be alone mentally in trying to do what I do. I feel that they still really don’t understand it because it was not my original path in wanting to have a career in creating things in media, (advertising products or services hopefully on T.V. like in a commercial, or being the spokesperson of a brand, and finally being able to create my own T.V. shows in whatever genre I would like and maybe even acting in some of them). I am receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, and I always talked about becoming a Daytime T.V. Host, interviewing people on my own T.V. show. However, I don’t think having a Journalism career where I would follow someone else’s rules (down to how I look on T.V.) allows me to be as creative as I am. So, when I somewhat changed what I wanted to do, my family was okay with it, but I don’t think they really understand what I am trying to do. However, when I ask for help in things, they always help me. They tell me to be careful because they don’t want me to make bad decisions, or get in something where it may take a lot for me to get out of. They want to see me succeed in whatever I do, and has my best interest at heart.
