We had the good fortune of connecting with Vivian Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vivian, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The Warm Front business model was created out of necessity. When I became pregnant with my first child I was a television broadcaster and needed maternity clothes that were professional and business-like. I looked high and low for business’s/career maternity clothes, but none of the maternity stores in Atlanta carried a large selection of professional maternity wear. 80-90% of their inventory was casual and sports maternity clothes. I knew there was a growing need for professional maternity wear, so I opened a maternity boutique. My niche’ was catering to the “professional” Mom-to-Be.

Fast forward a few years and a coworker/friend inquired about using my storefront as the venue for her baby shower. I was reluctant at first, but later agreed and allowed her to have her baby shower in the store. It was such a cute well received experience and that’s where the idea was “birthed”(pun intended). The Warm Front Maternity experience includes a Baby Shower Boutique. We specialize in personalizing and customizing baby showers. Each shower is unique, as we offer dozens of colors and patterns and hundreds of themes. Just like no two babies are alike, no two baby showers are alike at The Warm Front.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a young girl, I was always fascinated with cloud development and how the weather changed so drastically from day to day AND why we didn’t get much snow in Mississippi. When I graduated from high school, I decided to major in Meteorology and I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Jackson State University; the first HBCU in the country to offer a degree in that discipline..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I moved to a small suburb of Atlanta, GA in 1986. Smyrna, GA. At that time, Smyrna was a very small town filled with dirt roads. Today Smyrna has multimillion dollar homes and businesses with many high rise buildings and entertainment venues to include, but not limited to the Atlanta Braves Stadium. Smyrna has a very rich history and has come a long way in cultivating and celebrating the contributions that Black Americans have made to the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my loving parents. Dr ReJohnna Brown and Coach William Brown. Two of the most loving, caring, supportive, encouraging parents any baby could have or want.. The Warm Front operates its business like a ministry because it’s all about celebrating the miracle of New Life and dedicated to God for one of his greatest blessings “a baby”
