We had the good fortune of connecting with Vindhya Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vindhya, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
One piece of conventional advice I disagree with is the idea of choosing one path and sticking to it for a lifetime. More specifically in my case, that you must choose between music and filmmaking or acting to succeed in the entertainment industry. This perspective overlooks countless examples of multi-talented artists who excel in various disciplines—Beyoncé, Ice Cube, Queen Latifah, Method Man, 50 Cent, and Teyana Taylor, to name a few. These individuals prove that pursuing multiple avenues can lead to remarkable success. Furthermore, music and film are inherently intertwined; one often enhances the other. As someone with diverse talents, I believe in leveraging them all to maximize my marketability and value. I’ve never been one to confine myself to a single path—the more skills I cultivate, the greater the impact I can make..
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is a reflection of my versatility, authenticity, and passion for storytelling. What sets me apart is my ability to merge multiple creative outlets—music, acting, photography, and filmmaking—into a cohesive brand. Growing up in Montezuma, Georgia, I proudly embrace my roots, which influence not only my personality but also my work. I’m most proud of earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Film & Media from Georgia State University and of creating my brand, ENV, which represents resilience and creativity. I’m especially excited about releasing diverse projects, exploring new business ventures, and connecting with my audience.
Getting to where I am today has not been easy. It required persistence, networking with like-minded individuals, and a commitment to remaining consistent even when progress felt slow. I’ve faced financial hurdles, self-doubt, and the pressure of balancing multiple ventures, but I overcame these challenges by focusing on my goals and refusing to limit myself. Each obstacle taught me the value of patience, the importance of authenticity, and the power of resilience. I still have a long way to go, but I am thankful for every part of my journey.
My brand, ENV, carries a deep personal meaning. Beyond honoring my late grandmother, Elois Nicholson, it reflects my experiences of exclusion and bullying. I realized that envy often stems from others recognizing something in you they can’t replicate, and I transformed that understanding into a legacy. ENV represents pride, perseverance, and the refusal to dim my light for others. Through my clothing brand, ENV Official, my production company, ENV Entertainment, and future ventures, I aim to inspire others to embrace their own stories and shine unapologetically.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit Atlanta, we’d hit Krog Street Market for food, drinks, and murals, try out an escape room, bowl and grab drinks at The Painted Pin, and catch a movie at IPIC for a luxury experience. I’d also take them around the city for a mini photoshoot at some cool spots, and of course, they’d come to the studio with me to see what I’m working on. At night, we’d go to a lounge or bar.
As for food, we’d start each day with brunch at places like Weezy’s, Breakfast Boys, or Toast on Lenox. We’d grab the best birria tacos from Chalo Fast Food, wings from American Deli, and one night, I’d cook a meal they love or something I’m known for. I’m big on finding places that combine food, drinks, and activities, so we’d definitely make those a focus during their visit. Southern hospitality is definitely something I take pride in.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my dad for inspiring me and passing down his musical gift, my mom for her unwavering support, and my sister for always being my biggest hype woman. I’m grateful for the many family members who believe in me, as well as my cheer coach, Mrs. Crawford, for providing the mentorship I needed as a teen. A special thank you to my acting coach, Anastasia Wilson, for encouraging me and shaping my skills as an actress, and to my cousin, actor Swift Rice, for giving me my first opportunity in the industry. Each of you has played a crucial role in my journey, and I couldn’t be more thankful.
